Values the Grovely Way

Principal’s Page
To start this page off I would like to thank everyone in our school community for their support so far whilst I have been taking Mrs Baker’s place. It is really such a strength at Grovely that our team functions so well in all conditions. As the Term heads to a close there are some very important dates for your diary. September 13 is the P-7 Celebration of Learning Day. Your children have worked hard this term to produce items of really high quality, and we want to share with you. These days are so important to your children because it shows them that we all share in the journey of their education. Your attendance on the day will be such a big part of the success. We can’t wait to see you there. Each student is dressing up as one of their favourite storybook characters to celebrate Book Week on the day. This day will be such a big celebration of what is great at Grovely. And the best part is that it is your children have shaped the day for you. Maybe you could have a chat to your children and help them plan the character they would like to come as. A focus of this day will be our Values and we will be linking that with the student’s choice of character. An example might be that Harry Potter demonstrates the value of courage. We are all really excited about this day and look forward to sharing it with the community. Cent Auction The cent auction will be next Friday 14 September. The success of this event will rely on the support of our community. Each class is making a themed basket using your donations. If you have already sent along your items we thank you very much. Your children benefit from this night and the P&C have worked extremely hard so please send along your donations and try and be there on the night. It is going to be a lot of fun! Reward Days In Week 11, the last week of school we are having our reward day for students that have achieved great behaviour. We place a real importance at Grovely on behaviour and can’t wait to take these kids out to celebrate. You will get information home soon about this excursion and the cost involved. We have kept the cost to an absolute minimum to ensure that all students that have earned this special reward can attend. Teacher Aides Day This Friday 7 September is Teacher Aides Day. At Grovely we have a wonderful team of Teacher Aides supporting our students and staff. On Friday and every other day we celebrate the work they do and the contribution they make to our community. Thank you all for everything you do! Prep-Year 3 Closure Day Just a reminder to everyone that the last day of term, Friday 21 September is a student free day for all Prep to Year 3 students. School will operate as usual for all other year levels. Congratulations If you get the Westerner newspaper you may be aware that we have quite a sporting star in our midst. Kalena Martin in MR has been selected to represent Brisbane in the Junior Boys Representative side. Yes you read this right-the Boys side! What an incredible achievement for her! She is only the second girl ever. She now goes on to play in the Grand Final. Well done Kalena and we wish you all the best.

School Arrival Please be aware that students arriving at school before 8am need to be attending the Before School Care program. It is just not safe for our students to be by themselves on school grounds prior to this time. Some students are arriving at 7.30am. When students arrive at school they are required to sit under F block until the 8.30am bell. We appreciate your support with this. Louise Barry

HI FROM THE CHAPLAIN
Every person has a primary love language (a way in which they show and receive love). Discover your Child’s ‘Love Language’. It is my pleasure to offer to parents the opportunity to participate in this really worthwhile course. As a result of a grant from the Brisbane City Council, Grovely can offer this course to parents, for the cost of a gold coin. Included in the cost is a cuppa and a „5 Love Languages‟ workbook. The course is to be facilitated by Kathy Stolz, a hich school teacher, wife and mother of 4. It will run for 5 weeks and will take place on Thursday mornings, commencing on Thursday the 18th of October, 9:00-10:30am. Comments from past participants include:  “I am now aware of my child‟s love language. Before I would have been completely frustrated by their seemingly meaningless behaviour. Now I know better!”  “I am calmer in the mornings”  “The first „guilt free‟ parenting course ever!” If you are interested in doing this course, please contact me through the school office so that I can order a workbook for you and reserve a place. Free help with budgets and managing personal finances Although we may not like having to think about the family budget, financial problems have a way of negatively impacting on every other area of our lives, including our relationships. A trained finance worker is offering her time and expertise to help individuals and couples better manage budgets and save money. For further information and to arrange meeting times please contact Sue Wilton on 0423 096 555 or swilt21@eq.edu.au Jennifer Thompson
