Spreadsheet estimater of total reproductive isolation, and relative contributions to total reproductive isolation Ramsey, J., H. D. Bradshaw Jr. and D. W. Schemske. 2003. Components of reproductive isolation between the monkeyflowers Mimulus lewisii and M. cardinalis (Phrymaceae). Evolution 57(7):000-000. This spreadsheet calculates total reproductive isolation (T), as well as relative contributions (RCn) to total reproductive isolation, as a multiplicative function of individual components of reproductive isolation (RIn). This method is an extension of that outlined by Jerry Coyne and Allen Orr (Coyne, J., and A. Orr. 1989. Patterns of speciation in Drosophila. Evolution 43:362-381) The values shown represent reproductive isolation between Mimulus cardinalis and M. lewisii (see text), but the spreadsheet is easily adapted to other datasets. First, identify the studied reproductive barriers, in sequential order in the life history, under "Stage" and "Reproductive barrer" (columns A and B). Second, indicate the individual components of reproductive isolation (RIn) in column D. The spreadsheet will then automatically calculate T as well as RCn for the included reproductive barriers. The figure below the data columns graphs RCn for the different reproductive barriers. Formula details for these calculations are summarized in the manuscript text (p. X).
