							City of Manitowoc Committee on Aging Meeting Minutes June 7, 2004 The meeting was called to order at 11:02 a.m. by chairperson Robert Rosinsky. Present: Sylvester Diedrich, Mary Claire Mullins, Marie Ponschock, Roger Halvorsen, Donna Kickland and Ruth Malzahn Excused: Joe McLafferty, Director of Parks & Recreation, Francis Powalisz Also attending: Judy Rank, Aging Resource Center and Denise Larson, Assistant Recreation Director Minutes of the previous meeting approved as read by motion by Sylvester Diedrich and Ruth Malzahn. Denise Larson reported Health Fair scheduled for September 20; no charge. July 4 city picnic at Silver Creek Park will run from Noon – 4 PM with the Mtwc Marine Band playing at Noon – 1:30 – and Rod Scheuer Group from 2-4 pm ; fireworks will shot off at the South Pier at approximately 9:30 PM. Father’s Day events at the zoo will run from 11 – 2 PM . Concert in the Park series information will be available on line. The Volunteer Recognition at the Bil-Mar was a success. The Hawaiian themed event had approximately 130 participants. Rank’s report: Medicare Prescription Drug Discount Cards are resulting in a lot of phone calls. Presentations have been done around the county. Have seen an increase in SeniorCare enrollment as a result. Hope to do a forum or listening session with federal and state legislators in August. Have not received the $30 vouchers for the Senior Farmers Market. Will only receive 180 sets of vouchers. Will be dispensed on a first-come, first-served basis. Will put a notice in the paper regarding enrollment. Lakeshore Chronicle/Senior Action doing a listening session at the library. Creative Expression Grant will train facilitators to work with seniors in creative expression. Training will be June 30 in Stevens Point. Other comments: Ponschock brought up the size of the new format of senior newsletter. Rosinsky brought up terms of service for our members is 3 years. Some will be up this June.
