Dear Band and Performance Ensemble Members and Families: Welcome to the Westview High School band and performance ensemble program for 2009-10! We’re looking forward to another rewarding year of musical accomplishment, and to your participation in the program. To get the most from your investment of time and money, we want you to be fully informed about the program. There will be a lot going on. Please take time to review all of the enclosed information, which is designed to help students and families understand how the program operates and what is expected from them. The packet includes the following information:

Important Dates To Remember August 24-Sept. 4 Band Camp – See calendar for details. Participation by all students is very important to begin learning the marching drill and music for the fall competitions. (Note: camp for Performance Ensemble members begins August 17.) Band Registration – an opportunity at the beginning of Band Camp to turn in forms, pay fees, and ask questions. It is important to submit completed forms at the beginning of band camp so that camp staff has contact information to reach parents or guardians in case of emergency. You may register by

submitting forms and payments by mail before Aug. 24, or register in person during Band Camp at the dates and times indicated in the calendar. Completed registration packets may be sent with your student. Or parents are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity to talk with Parent Group leaders and ask questions about the band program. August 25 – Parent Meeting – First regular meeting of Parent Group, an opportunity to learn of plans and schedule for the coming year, and ask questions of the band director and parent group leaders. August 26 – ‘Wildcat Days’ Student Registration – 7:30 to 9 am, school registration (not band registration) for Band and Performance Ensemble students. In addition to the typical full schedule of rehearsals, competitions, and concerts, this year has the added excitement of a planned April trip to southern California and Disneyland. Trip planning is in the preliminary stages, but be on the watch for information to be distributed about information meetings, travel dates, and registration and payment deadlines. The trip is optional, but we hope that all of our students will be able to take part in this memorable experience. We recognize that the cost of the trip (not yet determined but expected to be between $800 and $1,000) is high, especially on top of the program participation fees that we must charge, and creates a big financial burden for many families. We will offer a number of fundraising opportunities to help students earn a portion of the trip cost and hopefully ease the out-of-pocket cost to the family budgets. I know this packet contains a great deal of information that may seem overwhelming. But I urge all students and parents to the take the time to carefully read through all of the enclosed documents. Westview’s band program is a busy and exciting place – there’s a lot going on and we want you to be informed so you don’t miss out on any opportunities. We look forward to seeing you in August!
