All All That Glitters… Is Fabulous!
The Scrapbook Same-Old-Same-Old got you down? Looking for a little pizzaz to jazz up an otherwise humdrum page? Need that special spark to give your layout a little flair? Yeah. So did I. I needed more than your standard scrapbook layout. Ineeded interest, excitement and pinache. I needed glitter. How To Use Glitter in Your Albums: First, apply a thin coat of adhesive to totally cover the area you want to highlight. Working over a TRAY or piece of scratch paper, GENEROUSLY sprinkle your glitter. Overcoat. Use WAY too much, and when you’re done, gently push the sparkles into the adhesive. Next, tilt and tap your surface to shake off any loose flakes back into your tray. These can be funneled back into the bottle to be used again. (Helpful Hint: If you wish to outline an image in glitter, be sure to use something like Glossy Accents or an adhesive with a pointy applicator.) Easily Correct Mistakes If you make a little mistake, don’t fret! Just keep a small square of cardstock handy to handle the problem. You can use it to push glitter/glue into a straight line, fix a mistake or to remove a spot of glitter/glue completely. If you find you have made a mistake with your adhesive, do not try to correct the problem until after applying the glitter. This addition holds the glue in place and makes it easier to control. Simply lay an edge of the cardstock next to the mistake, and slide the adhesive/glitter back into its intended place. Allow For Ample Drying Time: When you have finished, set your piece aside to dry. This may take anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on how much adhesive you used, so allow yourself plenty of time for this stage. When the glitter has hardened completely, you can use a small paint brush, or blow to get rid of any more stray flecks. Seal The Deal : If you are glittering a greeting card, this is not really an issue, but especially for scrapbook layouts, your final step must be to seal the glitter in. After your piece is thoroughly dry, prevent excess from flaking off onto your page by going back over with another coat of glaze. This completely seals in the glitter. Give it a few hours or overnight to completely dry. Better yet, avoid the problem altogether by using special glitter glue where the glitter is mixed right in with clear adhesive. Or use glitter embossing powders – heat embossing also makes them stay put. And that’s all there is to it. If you want to glitter multiple colors, be sure you do just one at a time. Work within small areas, and complete each color before moving on to the next. To create a sparkly birthday cake for example, finish glittering all the pink icing, and let it dry before moving onto the green candles. Glitter can be applied to stamped images. Simply stamp your image with Versamark ink then add micro glitter like you would embossing powder. Create the look of velvet on your cards and layouts by applying glitter to double-sided sticky tape, then rubbing the glitter with your fingers. This will bring out a nice sheen and prevent color contamination when using two or more colors of glitter. The results are a lovely effect that looks and feels like brushed velvet. Experiment with Acetate: Using pre-printed, or acetate you have stamped yourself, apply adhesive and glitter to the BACK of the image. This will allow the black outlines to show up nicely when you are finished. Remember, work just one small section, and one color at a time. Let the image dry completely before trying to trim the acetate. • Inexpensively dress up your naked chipboard; when you’re done, you can also distress the edges to add even more texture and dimension. Dazzle up with hearts, flowers, and birthday balloons! Give a little kick to letters of a title, or the wings of a butterfly. Create polka-dot spots, or draw your own designs free hand or trace over pencil marks. Use your fingers to swirl one or more colors of wet glitter for a tie die design.

It really makes a rather simple layout look like you spent hours, and it was EXACTLY what I needed! Check out the calendar for some great glitter project ideas.
