There is always a need for people, especially men, to become involved in the Corrections Correspondence Service, which is coordinated by the General Service Office. This is a way for A.A. members that are locked up in prison to connect to sober members of Alcoholics Anonymous on the outside. The way the program works is that the A.A. member on the inside writes to G.S.O. The A.A. member on the outside that is interested provides their mailing address to the Corrections desk at G.S.O. The address of the inmate is then sent to the A.A. member on the outside. If you are interested, you can write to: G.S.O. ATTN: Corrections PO Box 459, Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163. The Trustees’ Corrections Committee of the General Service Board is discussing several possible additions to the A.A. web site aa.org, which pertain to Corrections. If and when any of these are implemented, we will let you know. The new Southern California Area 5 General Service Delegate’s name is Jim Whipple. He takes office January 1 st. He will determine who will be handling the H & I liaison duties for Area 5 in consultation with the other new Area 5 officers. Thank you for letting me be of service 12) 2005 So Cal Convention H&I Speaker Chair ~ Dusty: (Meets second Sunday monthly @ the 502 Club, 502 So. Second Street in Covina.) I did not get a written report from Dusty. 13) So Cal H&I Conference Chair (2005) ~ Nick M.: (Meets 1st Sunday of the month @ 205 W. 1st Street in Tustin. The District 20 Meeting Center. Approx. cost of tickets is $650. Cost of books: 1 st = $306, 2nd = $55, 3rd & 4th were donated. We will select ribbons, badges and badge holders on Dec. 5 th. We have a great institutional program put together and are finalizing the hospitals program. Al-Anon has completed their program. The 1 st round of registration flyers (10,000 English & 600 Spanish) are available. Jason and I will be calling on each participating IG rep to carry the message to neighboring committees. Sandi participated in the NA WSLD. She was very impressed and brought back contacts that will benefit our conference for years to come. The bank account has been opened and money is flying out. Jim M., from Springville UT, will be our banquet speaker. He has a lot of history with us. 14) Website Chair ~ Sue S: Website address: www.aahandi.org or www.schii.org . 73 hits in August; total of 506 since February. the home page, with links to downloadable documents. I think this presentation is easier to use and allows users to easily compile needed information. I’ve uploaded the yellow brochure and am working on the corrections correspondence / contact upon release section. If you want something posted on the website, please let me know by emailing website@lahic.org. 15) 12-Step Advisory Comm. Rep ~Dave M.: Dave’s report on this came in 2 parts and both are quite long. I have attached them separately. 16) NorCal H&I Liaison ~Dave M.: Meetings: The Northern California AA H&I Committee has two types of meetings: 1. A Steering Committee Meeting which is held three times a year in Walnut Creek in January, May and September. 2. A General Committee Meeting which is held three times a year around the Bay Area in February, June and October. I will be attending the February 13 th meeting which is currently scheduled for San Jose. Annual Conference: The 2005 Annual Conference will be held April 22,23 and 24 in Galt, CA, which is on Route 99 just a little south of Sacramento. I have registration forms for those of you interested in attending. The conference is just a week before ours and I think it would be nice of a contingent from SoCal H&I showed up. Reports: They publish a quarterly report and I’ll get a copy of it for our files. Liaison: For the time being it will be Don Rollefstad. He may do it permanently based on his schedule. I have asked our secretary to include him in the mailing of the minutes of our meeting. I gave Don several of the flyers for the Spanish H&I conference in December and, with luck, Jose might have a few people attend from up there. Credit where credit due…I would not have known about the conference if Bob C. hadn’t found it on the net and sent it to me. Thank you Bob. All for now, Dave

We had four members celebrating November birthdays that totaled 32 Years. Our General Fund and Literature Fund are looking good with $2,570.67 in our Literature Fund. We spent $267.59 on Literature this month. We have one more H&I Information Meeting scheduled for November 26 th with recent meetings being very successful. The last Harbor Area Service Committee fundraiser for the year, the Traditions Brunch, was very successful with another $1,377 profit going to keeping the lights on and the phones working at Central Office. With this income our Central Office is operating in the black year to date by $3,042. Speaking of fundraisers, more exact numbers have come in for our annual fundraiser for Harbor Area H&I, our Mass Meeting/Chili Cookoff, held in September. As of today Harbor H&I earned $4,648 for Literature in 2005. As a result of last month’s motion to remove panel chairpersons who were derelict in their duty to attend our business meeting, most, if not all, chairpersons were in attendance. Elections for 2005 officers were held successfully with our Director, Treasurer and Librarian being given a second tour. Our next Business Meeting will be on Wednesday, December 15th, at 8pm. RESERVE. OPERATING FUND $422.45. LITERATURE FUND $1428.28. NEXT MEETING JANUARY 17, 2005. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME BE OF SERVICE, JON L 8) Inland Empire ~ Russ D: (Meets 12:30 pm, 3rd Sun @ Patton State Hospital, newcomer orientation at 12:00 pm) Absent / No Report. 9) Inter-Valley ~ Glenn W: (Meets 6:30 pm, 1st Mon @ Covina Alano Club) I am sorry that I couldn’t attend the Intergroup meeting today due to having the flu. InterValley H&I have their meeting on 10/1/04. 21 persons were present including 3 new persons to the H&I business meeting. $521.55 was spent on literature. 89 panels to 26 facilities were provided with 6 dark nights reported. A panel to Casa Colima was closed due to the one person in the facility did have the ability to go to outside meetings. The committee agreed to host the Intergroup meeting in 2005 on May 22nd in Covina. A potluck was suggested so that more local H&I people would have the change to experience an Intergroup meeting. The Glendora AA Central Office which handles the San Gabriel Valley had its one paid employee, Joni, retire. Tina W. will replace her. A Celebration of Joni’s fine commitment to Glendora AA Central Office will be held on Saturday 12/4/04 From 1-4 PM @ the Covina 502 Club. 10) Los Angeles ~ Sue S: (Meets 7:30 pm, 2nd Mon @ Church Hall, newcomers at 7:00 pm) Hospital side: ~ 250 panels. Corrections side ~ 100 panels, some of which we share with San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita H&I. We have 200-300 in attendance at each business meeting, which is held the 2 nd Monday at 7:30 pm at 4350 Wilshire Blvd. (at Plymouth), Los Angeles, CA 90010. 2004 literature fund collections and expenditures are averaging approximately $3,900 and ($4,200) per month, respectively. The last two months’ collections have been significantly lower, we don’t know why. We held elections, Joan VT is our new director, Kevin G. our new Corrections Chairperson. The proposed revised guidelines are being reviewed by experienced H&I oldtimers, and we will vote on them in December. LAHIC believes that H&I is incompatible with contact upon release. The new contact upon release person is therefore now called the “Corrections Correspondence Chair” although the duties are the same. I’ve brought copies of the new guidelines for this position, which has been filled by Steve. Steve has been introduced by email to SCHII contact upon release positions. I am the new H&I Information Meetings Chairperson, and still do the website and SCHII Rep. Sandi and I will be working on some 3-fold fliers – some suggestions I’ve received: (1) an orientation flier for newcomers to H&I, (2) a flier of basic information about AA for inmates and patients (including central offices, 12-steps, encouragement to contact chaplain for direct transportation to halfway houses and treatment centers, if desired), (3) a flier about “other ways to serve H&I” (including contact upon release, sponsorship by mail programs in Southern California, (4) an information sheet for meeting secretaries about the cans, which seems to be needed based on the phone calls received from secretaries who wonder if we ever received their meetings’ donations. 11) Orange Co. ~ Sean M: (Meets 2nd Sun @ Garden Grove Alano Club, CF – 4:00 pm / TF – 6:00 pm) George filling in for Sean reports: Had elections. Everything went well. Contacted Chino clearance person and she has committed to having a current clearance list by Friday, 12/10/04. Also, O/C H&I covers 400 panels a month & currently has 250 members. 12) San Diego-Imperial ~ Erica D: (Meets 1:15 pm, 3rd Sun @ Machinists Union Hall) Sorry to miss you and the other folks today - I have a schedule conflict. On November 21, 2004, the H&I Committee for Southern California and Imperial County met for its bi-monthly policy council meeting, which was followed by the regular business meeting. A member has asked for contact information at the prison in Lancaster so that he can send in speaker tapes. His proposal is to pay for the tapes from Encore (who tapes all the large conventions) and have Encore send the tapes to the contact at the prison. I don't know if that is something on of the Intergroup committees can arrange or would the Correctional Chair in the Lancaster area arrange this? Guidance and information on this matter would be appreciated. My wishes to all of you for a happy and safe holiday. See you in January. Love, Erica 13) San Diego-North ~ Bob C: (Meets quarterly @ Oceanside Alano Club) We met last Friday at the Oceanside Alano Club to turnover to new officers and get next year off to an early start. Our outgoing Chair did not show up for the event, so we got some work done. Following a presentation by Paul P and Cammy from the COR committee, we moved to cooperate with Contact on Release to allow them to use our contacts in the jails and treatment centers to get in COR literature and information. We have a full

Our upcoming Quarterly New Member Meeting is January 14, 29005, and we have a Committee meeting the Friday before. 14) San Fernando Valley ~ Dusty B: (Meets 8:00 pm, 3rd Mon @ St. Innocence Church in Tarzana, 7:00 pm orientation) Did not get a report from Dusty. 15) Santa Barbara ~ Nat B: (Meets 6:00 pm, 2nd Mon @ SB Central Office) In attendance were 16 members. SBHIC 12/5 event was postponed due to rain and held the following Sunday. It was great fun and we plan on doing it again in September. More details to come. Panels going well. We collected $446 in donations for the month of Oct. and spent $1,293 on expenses, mostly literature and literature fund to SCHIIG. 16) Santa Barbara-North ~ Pete P: (Meets third Thursday 6:30 PM rotating sites) The first item of importance to report is that SBNCH&I is looking forward to hosting the March ’05 So. Cal. H&I Intergroup meeting. The meeting will be held at The Santa Ynez Valley Alano Club located in Solvang, Ca. SBNCH&I is experiencing some growth in both membership and in panel participation. We still haven’t put together a new member orientation program and would really appreciate any input from the Intergroup membership.(E-mail me at rep1111@verizon.net). SBNCH&I has created an Ad-Hoc committee to recommend certain budgetary limits and to ascertain a prudent reserve. Sorry I can’t be at the November meeting, but I have a conflicting H&I meeting panel the third Sunday of the month. Happy Holidays and I’ll see you in January.
