3 Hazards identification

•

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: Clear, colorless liquid. Toxic if inhaled or swallowed. May cause respiratory effects. Absorbed through skin. May cause reproductive effects. Potential Health Effects: Exposure during the end use of this product is expected to be minimal. End-users should refer to the packaging label for proper handling procedures. However, any user should be aware of the health effects of the active ingredient in this product, cloprostenol, especially in the the event of sufficient exposure during manufacturing, spills, etc. Cloprostenol is toxic by inhalation and ingestion. Inhalation and/or absorption through the skin may induce bronchospasms, characterized by difficulty in breathing and can be fatal. Possible side effects resulting from absorption of cloprostenol include premature menstruation, induction of labor or abortion. Other reported effects include cardiovascular effects, inhibition of gastric secretion, and changes in intraocular (internal eye) fluid pressure. Additional information: Not listed as a carcinogen by NTP, IARC, or OSHA. 4 First aid measures

•

•

•
•

Respiratory: Remove from exposure. If breathing ceases, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention immediately. Dermal: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed area with soap and water. Get medical attention immediately. Eye: Rinse opened eye for 15 minutes under running water or with normal saline solution. Get medical attention immediately.

•

•

•

Ingestion: In case of accidental swallowing, give large amounts of water. Do not induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. Information for physician: ESTRUMATE is a synthetic prostaglandin F2-alpha analog that has potent luteolytic effects and is used for synchronization of estrus in cattle. It may cause reproductive or respiratory effects associated with prostaglandin modulators. Treat symptomatically. 5 Fire fighting measures

•

•
•

Suitable extinguishing agents: Water, dry chemical, or CO2. Special hazards caused by the material, its products of combustion or resulting gases: Under normal conditions of use, this material does not present a significant fire or explosion hazard. Protective equipment: Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). 6 Accidental release measures

•

•

•
•

Measures for environmental protection: Spills should be handled in accordance with standard operating procedures. Chemical decontamination is recommended. Do not allow to enter sewers/ surface or ground water. Measures for cleaning/collecting: Absorb with liquid-binding material (sand, diatomite, acid binders, universal binders, sawdust). Clean area with soap and water via wet mopping. Dispose of spilled material as noted in Waste Disposal Methods below. 7 Handling and storage

•

•

•

Handling: Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep containers tightly closed when not in use. Avoid skin contact. Storage: Store between 58-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from sunlight. 8 Exposure controls and personal protection

•

•

Occupational Exposure Guidelines and Standards Not Available.
•

Breathing equipment: Appropriate respiratory protection (i.e. half-mask, full facepiece) is required until effective engineering controls are instituted. Contact your site safety staff for additional guidance. Skin protection: Gloves appropriate for protection against direct contact with this material, formulation, excipients, or solvents. Consult your site safety staff for additional guidance. Eye protection: Safety glasses with side shields. Use of goggles or full face protection may be required. Consult your site safety staff for additional guidance. Body protection: Lab coat or uniform. Use of additional PPE such as shoe coverings, gauntlets, hood, or head covering may be necessary. Consult your site safety staff for additional guidance. 9 Physical and chemical properties

Acute toxicity: Lethal Dose/Lethal Concentration (LD/LC): 5-Heptenoic Acid, 7-(2(4-(3-Chlorophenoxy)-3-Hydroxy1-Butenyl)-3,5Dihydroxycylopentyl)-, Sodium Salt Oral: LD50: 25 mg/kg (rat)

LD50 Intravenous: 54.7 mg/kg mg/kg (mus)
•

Oral: The oral no effect level in rats and marmosets is 50ug/kg/day and in hamsters 10ug/kg/day. Subchronic to chronic toxicity: Cloprostenol has been extensively tested in animals (rats, hamsters, pigs, and cattle) and significant effects on reproductive status have been reported at doses of 1-300 ug/kg in all species tested; hamsters were most sensitive. Effects include changes in partruition, changes in implantation, absorption, hormonal changes, and viability index. 12 Ecological information Not available.
