Some of us were beginning to wonder if the rain was every going to stop, but of course now that is a dim memory as we move into Spring. I know that the students have certainly appreciated being able to use our field again and the Olympics day was a wonderful way to celebrate the Term in sunny, warm conditions. Yesterday our three rugby teams visited Blockhouse Bay for a mini New Image tournament and while all players were competitive and played hard, I was really impressed with their behaviour and attitude. They were excellent ambassadors for the school. As I write our year 3 / 4 team – the mighty Pumas – is preparing for a game here against Kelston. I am not sure who gets more excited, the kids or me! In Term 4 we have an Art focus for our integrated study and I know that this will be an excellent learning experience with lots of visual output. Also next term we are looking to trial a new parent programme to support some of our students in maths. If you are interested in being part of this, contact the school and have a chat to John our Deputy Principal who will be coordinating it. It will only involve around 1 hour each week. We are in full fundraising mode at the moment because there are many upcoming trips and other events. Special thanks to Friends of Avondale who have been working hard to sell raffles for our grocery hamper and with the sausage sizzle. Due to these efforts, combined with other fundraising done by staff, we will be able to subsidise the students for most of these events. You will be informed of upcoming events in newsletters and notices. Also, if you visit the website www.avondaleprimary.school.nz you can check these out on the calendar. We wish all our families a lovely holiday and look forward to another exciting term. Greg Chalmers, Principal Reminder – Closing Day / Time for Term 3 is 3.00pm tomorrow as usual.
