A guide for those who want to give … and those who are seeking help.
This year the Human Development Council is asking you to make a difference for individuals and families in our region. Donate a gift for children, teens, adults or seniors. Drop off nonperishable food items to a local food drive or a food bank. Make a donation to a non-profit agency. Give the gift of time - volunteer. Call the Saint John Volunteer Centre, 506-658-1555, or the Volunteer Centre of Charlotte County, 506-466-4995. Other Ways to Give... Being alone can be particularly difficult during the holiday season. Many individuals, nursing home residents, single parents, and seniors would appreciate the gift of a visit, a drive in the country, or an invitation to a meal with you and your family. Useful items for anyone on fixed or low income include: gift certificates for haircuts or manicures, pre-paid long distance cards, transportation / bus passes, movie passes, membership to a fitness centre or sports program, gift of a food basket including small canned goods, crackers, soups mixes and cookies, a subscription to a newspaper or magazine or, stationary/postage stamps.
