QUILTING BASICS

Beginning Quilting Linda Schoeppach Five- 3 hour Sessions $60.00 plus book & Supplies Have the desire to learn to Quilt? Learn the basic skills for machine piecing in this 5-week class. Using Alex Anderson‟s book Start Quilting, you will learn the tools & how to correctly use them, choosing fabrics and construct a small Sampler quilt. Maximum 6 students Tuesday January 8th, 15th, 22nd 29th & February 5th 9:30am – 12:30pm Thursday March 13th, 20th, 27th, April 3rd, & 10th 9:30am – 12:30pm Beginning Quilting Annette Duley Five- 2 ½ hour Sessions $60.00 plus book & Supplies Have the desire to learn to Quilt? Using some of the basics from Alex Anderson‟s book Start Quilting, This 5 week class you‟ll learn basic quilting techniques- color values, ¼‟” seam allowance, rotary cutting, strip piecing, half square triangles, pressing, borders, sandwiching, quilting, binding and labels. Class project is a wall hanging or table topper and consists of 16 monochromatic blocks (8 rail fence and 8 friendship star) with an inner and outer border. Maximum 4 students Thursday evenings: 6pm- 8:30pm January 24th, 31st, February 7th, 14th, 21st March 20th, 27th, April 3rd, 10th, & 17th Beginning Hand Quilting Sue Grider One-2 hour Session $15.00 Interested in learning or need a little refresher in the tradition of fine hand quilting? Sue will give you the basic instructions for learning this fine art. Wednesday January 23rd 10am – 12pm Beginning Machine Quilting Kathy Reynolds One-4 Hour Session $25.00 Learn the art of machine quilting, Learn to use walking foot, perform free motion quilting. We will go over pinning, marking, batting and quilting tools. Learn the basic skills of machine quilting. Please know how your sewing machine functions. Bring your machines manual to class. By learning the basics, you‟ll have the skills to approach the foundation pieced project of your choice. Beginning Hand Appliqué Marion Bergstrom Two- 2 Hour Session $25.00 includes pattern There are several ways to approach appliqué, each with its own benefits. In this class we will share techniques that are useful for basic appliqué while stitching up 2 small flower blocks. In the first session you will learn Needleturn Appliqué using freezer paper and in the second session you learn the back basting technique. This is the class for you! You will make 2 labels in class. And learn of several other ways to make labels. This is a fun way to let your creative juices run! Come and play! Wednesday February 13th 1:30pm – 4:30pm Wednesday March 5th 1pm - 4pm Simple Binding Lorene Holbrook One- 2 Hour Session $10.00 Come and learn a basic way to bind your quilts. Easy and fast. You will learn how to sew your bindings on with mitered corners. You will cut, machine sew then finish by hand. BSK required. Rescheduled upon request minimum 3 students

EMBELLISHMENT TECHNIQUES

Crazy Quilt Embellishment Continued Linda Burch 2 Hour Session $20.00 Bring a crazy quilt block, garment or square of muslin & learn a variety of embellishments. Each meeting will be a different technique to include applications of beads, silk ribbon, threads, trims & buttons. Monday January 14th, February 11th 6pm – 8pm Saturday March 1st 1:30pm – 3:30pm Crazy Beads Linda Burch One- 3 Hour Session $ 25.00 Learn some basic embroidery stitches using beads. Add some glitz to a crazy quilt block or a piece of fabric that has a unique design suitable for beads. $3.00 optional kit fee paid to the teacher. Friday February 8th 1pm – 4pm Embellishment II Linda Burch One- 3 hour session $30.00 plus $5.00 material fee Are you adventurous? Do you want to experiment with unusual products? Let‟s Play with tyvek, air dried clay, enamel embossed velvet & Angelina. We will also make a variety of fabric beads. Saturday March 1st 10am - 1pm Paintstiks Linda Burch One-3 Hour Session $25.00 + $5.00 supply fee Come have fun playing with Paintstiks, stamps, stencils & rubbing plates to make designs which can be applied to wearable‟s, home dec, & quilts. Learn how to make the folded down jacket pockets and learn the easy continuous bias binding technique. Once you know how to make this jacket; you‟ll make more to keep and to give as gifts. Perfect Pillowcase Kathy Reynolds One- 3 Hour Session $ 15.00 includes instructions Want to learn to sew? This is a great way to start. Come learn some basic sewing skills and make a pillowcase. These pillowcases have totally enclosed seams. This method is fast and easy to complete. You will complete a pillowcase in class. You‟ll make lots of these for gifts. BSK required Tuesday January 15th 2pm – 5pm Rag Quilt Penny Camillone One- 4 Hour Session $25.00 Use flannel, homespun or woven fabrics and construct this cozy throw. The squares are quilted first then the blocks & rows are sewn together. Then just sit & clip the seam allowances. Instructions are included. BSK required Re-scheduled upon request Minimum 3 students Pieced Pincushion Lorene Holbrook One- 3 Hour Session $20.00 plus pattern These are pieced square, rectangle or circle pincushions. We will make 1-2 pincushions in class. Bring some fun funky buttons, and plan to have loads of fun. These will make great secret pal gifts. BSK required Friday January 25th 1pm – 4pm Double Wedding Ring Judy Fritz Two- 5 Hour Sessions $45.00 includes instructions Have you always wanted to make a double wedding ring quilt but were too afraid to try? Here is your chance to learn. Let Judy guide you through the tough spots to boost your confidence. You can make it the size you choose. You will go home with the knowledge to put it all together. BSK required Session 1: Saturday January 19th 10am – 3pm Session 2: Saturday January 26th 10am – 3pm Landscape Wall Hanging Evelyn Link One - 5½ Hour Session $30.00 Turn fabric into a landscape painting. This is not a difficult technique. Get your inspiration from a photo you have taken, a scenic calendar, a tourism book, memories, art, or fabric. Using raw-edged, fused appliqué, you can make it look realistic or whimsical. All the stitching and quilting is done on the sewing machine after you leave the class. (You do not have to bring your machine to the class). Learn a few basic rules then let your imagination go. Denise provides you with the instructions to whittle down that fabric stash. Thursday January 17th 6pm – 9pm My 3 Stars Pat Grago One- 6 Hour Session $30.00 plus book A Buggy Barn pattern using their unique stack and shuffle method to create a one of a kind quilt. This quilt would look great in patriotic colors or classic country colors. BSK required Monday January 21st 10am – 4pm Harmonic Convergence Evelyn Link One-3 Hour Session $20.00 There‟s a little bit of magic in this technique. Even though it is fun and easy, the result is a surprise. Using 4 pieces of fabric, cut, mixed and re-sewn, you will have an interesting wall hanging by itself or a background for a simple silhouette or appliqué‟. Let’s Frame It Allie Watkins One 3 Hour Session $25.00 Do you have some needlework that needs special framing? Allie will help you choose just the right fabric to set off that needlework. „Complete instructions will be provided for small piping and borders. BSK required Monday January 7th 10am – 1pm Piping Hot Macaroni Linda Burch One – 3 Hour Session $30.00 plus book Let‟s make macaroni without the Carbs! Learn how to apply corded piping to curved designs and avoid curve piecing. This fun technique will bring detail & dimension to traditionally sewn curved piecing. One Block Wonder Christy Kempff One- 3 Hr Session $25.00 plus book Take a wonderful piece of fabric, cut it into sixty degree triangles and sew them together. Everyone will create a wonderful quilt with color, design and art flowing across it in unique ways. Christy will share with you her experience in creating the amazing kaleidoscope results. Using the strip paper piecing method from the book “Quick Strip Paper Piecing: you will have accurate sharp points on this star block. BSK required Monday January 28th 10am – 4pm Log Jam Sharon White One- 4 hour Session $30.00 includes instructions This whimsical quilt is easy enough for beginners, but fun for all skill levels. Choose between two sizes: 32 x39 or 44 x 54. This quilt uses a variety of fat quarters. This is a fun quilt to use those novelty prints, i.e.: Halloween or Christmas. This is a good project to use some of those fat quarters in your stash. Learn to use the degree line on your ruler. Mystery Quilt with Linda Schoeppach Two- 4 hour Sessions $45.00 includes instructions Missed this mystery? Linda is once again hosting Debbie Caffreys Mystery quilt. So get ready to do some sleuthing (sewing)? You will receive your first clue when you register/pay to become a quilt detective. So grab your investigative, super sleuthing skills and tools, to help solve this quilting mystery. Not sure what a Mystery Quilt is: The final layout and look of the quilt is a secret until the end. Learn many ways to make them accurately. Various methods of triangle construction will be taught. BSK required Tuesday March 25th 10am – 1pm Scrap Tease Penny Camillone One- 4 Hour Session $30.00 plus pattern Have a lot of scraps or a stash you need to tame but not sure where to start? Scrap Tease is the perfect pattern to use up even tiny scraps as the strips are only 1 ½ ‟‟ wide and 6 5/8” long. Penny will walk you through the partial seam construction process. Denise Gebing Monthly - Third Friday $10.00/session Do you have a collection of fabric that you‟re not sure what to do with? Denise will provide you with a block/Quilt pattern that can be done as coordinated as scrappy as you like. Denise will demo the block pattern and give suggestions on how to construct. Midnight at the Oasis 6pm – 12am Third Friday of the Month $25.00/month Like to get together with other quilters? Have a project you want to work on? Need some uninterrupted time for quilting? Come spend 6 hours of quilting and socializing. Limit 10 Pre-registration is required Friday: January 18th, February 15th, March 21st Oasis Graduate School Cindy Arneson Third Tuesday of the Month $10.00/month "Since everyone seems to have projects they need to finish from classes they have taken over the years, now is the time to get them finished. Come and sew and finish those class projects at A Quilter's Oasis Graduate School! We'll meet every third Tuesday of the month except August and December 2008. Come to join the fun, see you at Oasis Graduate School on January 16, 2008." Limited to 8 Registration required. Tuesday: January 15th, February 19th, March 18th 6:30pm – 9pm

Class Policies 1. Class fee is to be paid in full at time of registration, payable to A Quilter's Oasis. Student(s) will receive class supply list at the time of registration. 2. Class reservation (slot) will not be reserved without payment. 3. The class fee DOES NOT include supplies, unless specified in written class description. 4. Registered students will receive a 10% discount on the purchase of required class materials when purchased at A Quilter's Oasis. 5. Instructor reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment: a full refund will be given. 6. A Full refund via your method of payment will be given for cancellations made 72 hours prior to class. 7. If registered student does not show up for class without notifying A Quilter's Oasis or the teacher 72 hours prior to class. NO REFUND full or partial will be given to the student. 8. Please be courteous to the other students: arrive 10 minutes before scheduled class time to set up. No children allowed during adult classes and please remember to shut off your cell phone during class. *If you must take a call please step out of the classroom.
