You Belong to a New Family Now When Christ truly saves you from his wrath (Roman 5:8-9), you become a part of a new family. You no longer belong in Satan’s kingdom [under Satan’s power/rule] any more, but you are now a part of the kingdom of God [under God’s power/rule] (Colossians 1:13, Acts 26:18)). You will become a new creature [creation] in Christ Jesus, old things [ways/nature/desires] will pass away and behold all things will become new (2 Corinthians 5:1718). You will no longer be spiritually dead but rather you will be spiritually alive in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:1-6). An overwhelming change will occur in your life and the desires of the world will begin to cease and will be replaced with the ongoing desire to do the will of God (1 John 2:15-17). Now of course this change will affect the people around you. The closeness [common likeness] that you once shared with your physical family members and friends will no longer be. Your physical family members and friends will think that it is strange that you no longer do the things that you use to do or go to the places that you use to go to, and therefore will speak evil of you (1Peter 4:4, John 15:18-20). The reason being is because Christ has caused a division among you (Luke 12:51-53). You must remember that you are different now [Christ has changed you] and that you are no longer spiritually dead like your physical family members and friends, but instead you are spiritually alive in Christ Jesus. You are no longer in darkness [unsaved] but you are now a child of the light [saved] (1 Peter 2:9, Ephesians 5:8). You are a part of a new family, a spiritual family known as the body of Jesus Christ – God’s elect (1 Peter 2:9-10). Your focus will now be on things above [heavenly things] and not on earthly things [vain things] as it has been in the past before you were saved (Colossians 3:1-2). You will begin to fellowship with people who truly love the Lord, who are not only hearers of the word of God, but also doers of the word of God [obeying God’s word] (Roman 2:13, Matthew 7:21) according to God’s will and good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). You must remember - you belong to a new family now (Matthew 12: 46-50)! Listed below are the verses mentioned in the above text that will help us better understand whom our mother, brother and sister are or shall we say whom our new family is, when we become saved. Also there are verses that explain how the Lord delivers his children from the power of Satan and enters them into his kingdom/ under his power: Roman 5:8-9 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood (life), we shall be saved from wrath through him. Colossians 1:13 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: Acts 26:18 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me (Jesus). 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; Ephesians 2: 1-6 1 And you hath he quickened (given life), who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (By grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 1 John 2:15-17 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not the Father, but is the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 Peter 4:4 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot speaking evil of you: John 15:18-20 18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I saith unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep your’s also. Luke 12:51-53 51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against the daughter in law, and the daughter in law against the mother in law. 1 Peter 2:9 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: Ephesians 5:8 8 For ye were sometimes (once) darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Colossians 3:1-2 1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Romans 2:13 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified). Matthew 7:21 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Philippians 2:13 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Matthew 12:46-50 46 While he (Jesus) yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
