Sections 7-13 are to be completed by the assessor with reference to the application form, referees’ and mentor’s report, the log-book and to the PAB Rules. Date of Acceptance of Graduate or Associate G A N Rule 1.1 Applicants should normally have graduated from a Qualifying Course as determined by Council, or other UK or overseas graduate or postgraduate course in ergonomics or allied subject area as defined in the Society Memorandum of Association. Assessors may also take into account membership of other relevant societies and professional bodies. Applicants who are not Graduates of a Qualifying Course or other course as defined above must demonstrate knowledge of psychological areas of ergonomics, biological areas of ergonomics, systems ergonomics, and the use of ergonomics methods appropriate to their area of ergonomics practice. Where the evidence of knowledge has come from training equivalent to taking a Qualifying Course in ergonomics certificates of completion, etc, from the training body must be submitted with the application. 5. Referees See rule 1.5 Referee 1 – M.Erg.S or F.Erg.S? Referee 2 – M.Erg.S or F.Erg.S? Is one employed in a different organisation? Are the references adequate and supportive? N.B. They are expected to show evidence that they know the work and the professionalism of the candidate. Overseas applicants who are unable to provide details of referees who are members of the Ergonomics Society may provide referees who are of an equivalent standing in their own National or International Ergonomics/Human Factors Society or related Professional Body. It is preferred that the mentor, does not also act as a referee. Normally, at least one referee should not be employed by the same organisation as the applicant. 6. Mentor’ Status See rule 1.3 Is mentor also a referee? Is mentor M.Erg.S or F.Erg.S? Is the mentors report adequate and supportive? Y N Y N Graduate Rule 1.2 Applicants who are graduate of a qualifying course as described in 1.1 above, should have completed AT LEAST THREE years’ experience (full-time or equivalent) in the practice of ergonomics, and/or teaching, and/or research of ergonomics relevance. Graduate Rule 1.3 Applicants who are graduates of a qualifying course should normally have AT LEAST ONE year of experience under the supervision of a mentor. 8. Knowledge & Practical Experience (Associate & other applicants only) See Associate Is ergonomics knowledge equivalent to that of a graduate of a qualifying rules 1.1 and 1.2 course?? Comments Y N Y N Y N Associate Rule 1.2 For all other applicants AT LEAST FOUR years’ experience is required. Ergonomics is interpreted as a wide discipline and assessors will look for evidence of a broad understanding and experience in the field. Rule 1.2(a) There must be evidence of both the knowledge of, and appropriate application of, a reasonable range of typical ergonomics techniques, e.g. task analysis; comprehensive approaches to job design; anatomical/physiological/psychological evaluation of work situations. (b) Teaching or research in, e.g. psychology or physiology, without multi-disciplinary and practical connotations is not acceptable. (c) The candidate’s experience must be in applied work. This is fairly obvious for ‘practice’, but teaching or research must also be seen as leading towards practical application. (d) Time spent on postgraduate research will be acceptable, as long as the work meets requirements (a) – (c) above, and has not been accounted within the requirements for graduate membership. Associate Rule 1.3 For all other applicants the period of mentored supervision should normally be AT LEAST TWO YEARS. 9.
