Kalispell School District #5 and High School District Long Term Substitute Teacher Procedure Effective July 1, 2007 Principal or designee will notify Human Resources of long-term substitute (LTS) need HR will verify incumbent’s leave status Long-term sub candidates will be reviewed. Interview and selection process is not required. Candidates must possess State of Montana teacher certification. Principal will notify Human Resources of selected candidate. Candidate will visit HR prior to 1st day of employment. HR will verify certification and complete employment paperwork. o A long-term substitute contract and collective bargaining agreement will be issued at this time o A copy of the contract will be issued to payroll and retained in a Long Term Substitute file. o If health benefits are anticipated according the scheduled end date of contract, the employee will complete benefit paperwork. Completion of the benefit paperwork does not guarantee that the LTS will receive the benefits unless all other criteria are met. o HR will process benefit paperwork after LTS has completed 60 working days on contract. LTS will be paid as a sporadic substitute for 35 teaching days at $75 per day. The school will report LTS for 35 teaching days on the sub report and reconcile with teacher absence report. On day 36 the school will continue to report as previously, but the LTS will be paid at Step 2/Lane 0, become a member of the KEA, and have all leave and rights afforded to him/her with the exception of health insurance. Leave may not be applied retroactively. LTS will be eligible for health insurance on the 60th teaching day on contract unless a definitive return date of the incumbent is within ten working days after the 60th day or the end of the school year is within ten working days after the 60th day.
