AND BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS: Co-created and directed Children of the Rainbow, the highly innovative 123rd edition of the Greatest Show on Earth. Supervised multi-million dollar budget, conceived story concept and managed all aspects of 140-person show which played to 15+ million people throughout the US.  WALT DISNEY WORLD: Developed and promoted major events for 100 Years of Magic, Walt Disney‟s 100th birthday celebration at the four Orlando theme parks. Served as a Creative Consultant for twelve months.  CHUCK JONES FILM PRODUCTIONS: Established formal internship program for legendary animator, Chuck Jones. Traveled North America to hand-pick 24 highly talented animators for a newly established Warner Bros. studio and designed a creative training program to spark creativity and develop fine arts skills. Conducted Master Classes & Workshops with Mr. Jones.  ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE LINES: Revitalized the entertainment package for the Voyager & Freedom class “megaships.” Established nationwide recruitment program, set long-term goals, scripted productions and trained performers in addition to breathing new life into the onboard „Street Spectaculars‟ on all five “Voyager” class ships, the three “Freedom” class vessels, and the all new „OASIS‟ scheduled for the Fall of 2009.  NBC-TV: Hosted award-winning children’s television program for seven years. Received five Emmys and an Action for Children‟s Television Award for innovative variety show, produced in Chicago by WMAQ-TV.  CBS TELEVISION SPECIAL: Managed televised 20th anniversary reunion of the Ringling Bros. Clown College. Brought in 500+ alumni, staged gala performance and oversaw logistics for TV production starring Dick Van Dyke.  RINGLING BROS. CLOWN COLLEGE: Led major change initiative as Dean of this unique institution. Revamped curriculum, recruited highly qualified faculty and transformed school‟s focus from superficial humor to emotionally-charged physical comedy. Managed staff of 75 and annual budget of up to $1 million.  TATTERED PRODUCTIONS: Created, funded and managed production company for sophisticated one-man show. Selected theaters, recruited 14-member crew, negotiated contracts and conceived, produced and performed show dubbed “a wondrous ride” by the Chicago Sun-Times and heralded as “sheer joy” by the Chicago Tribune!  BIG APPLE CIRCUS: Co-wrote and directed “Grandma Goes To Hollywood” for the 2005-2006 season of this classic, one ring circus; for the „06-„07 edition, “STEP RIGHT UP!” {“Outstanding Entertainment”- N.Y. Times} and the ‟08-‟09 season, „Play On!‟.

“If there is a job around for a „jumping bean‟ of pure fun, exhilarating stagecraft, kindness, intelligence, experience, the wit of a genius and the ability to impart his magnificent joy to others – Steve Smith is my nomination for this or any other employment.” Chuck Jones, Animator Steve Smith has built a highly-successful career in the entertainment industry, fully utilizing his talents as a writer, performer, producer, teacher, manager and director. He started out as a performer, having studied at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, earned a BFA in acting from the Goodman School of Drama and studied physical comedy with some of the world‟s top performers. He performed in the Greatest Show on Earth for several years before “running away from the circus to join a home.” Steve (as himself) hosted the award-winning NBC children‟s TV show, Kidding Around for seven years between 1978 and 1985, receiving multiple honors for his work in the show. Steve has taught extensively and served as the Director of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College for ten years, from 1985 – 1994. He has also traveled the world conducting workshops and master classes in physical comedy. During his tenure as Director of the college, Steve conceived and directed the highly successful 123rd edition of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus (“The Greatest Show on Earth”). In 1996, Steve was able to combine his skills as a producer, performer and manager when he served as the Talent Development Coordinator for Chuck Jones Film Productions and he went on to produce and direct numerous shows including several of his own plays and a critically-acclaimed one-man show, Slapstick & Sawdust. He has also directed and produced numerous productions around the world, including directing for the international touring cast of the Reduced Shakespeare Co., writing and directing an outdoor extravaganza in Japan and directing Mystique, an underwater circus for Princess Cruise Lines. More recently, Steve has worked as a creative consultant for Walt Disney World; assisted veteran director Jerry Zaks on the offBroadway musical, The IT Girl; and served as a Comedy Consultant for director Forest Whitaker on a major film project. Since 2001 Steve has been the Creative Consultant / Director for on-board “promenade” entertainment for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line‟s Voyager, Freedom & Oasis Class ships. He is currently serving as a Consulting Director for the Los Angeles production company, Wonderfun, and as co-writer & Guest Director of the 2005, 2006, 2008 & 2009 editions of The Big Apple Circus.
