Interview 1:

Brian Nielsen, Centersalg.dk

Har du/I en hjemmeside?
- Ja

Hvad kostede hjemmesiden?

Interview 2:
Niels Juul Jensen, Juul & Svane

Har du/I en hjemmeside?
-Ja

Hvad kostede hjemmesiden?

Appendix 10: Interview Guide

Inspiration from an upstarted company

We went down town to have and interview1 with Peter Møller from Look4Fashion, a small
company which was started by 2 students after finished the Multimedia design course.
The company started in 2003 and now has 7 employees.
The things we were interested in finding out from this company was how the process of starting up
had been.
Our questions were very much focused around the costs of starting up, how their development since
starting has been and how they tuned in on their target group.
From the beginning they had the rule of not spending any money that they did not have. It was
about 1½ years before they could actually start getting paychecks from the business. Of course, as
Peter stated, it takes longer to get things started without money; however, starting things slowly and
not taking too many risks was the way they wanted to do things.
In the beginning the workload varied a great deal. Some times there was not much work to do and
other times there was a lot.
The business has evolved slowly and steady. And in the development the roles have been divided
between the 3 guys. Nikolai has taken most of the contact with customers and the administrative
part, while Jesper is doing the more graphical part and is taking care of the relations to cooperation
partners. And at last Peter has been mainly programming and developing the systems for the
website and the other applications they use in their company. But apart from having their
specialties, he sees it as a demand for new starters to take initiative to get the tasks done, whatever it
is the thing that is ones main area.
The workload has been very varied, and in the beginning work hours was just as varied, but after a
few years and their work load has become more steady, the working hours does as well. So now
they meet in at 8 in the morning, and leaves in the evening again.

The interview was more of a ’casual’ talk than an actual interview; therefore we will not include an interview guide
from the interview. We will merely sum up what we learned.

2st Semester Exam Project 2006 Class E
                    ____________________________________________________

One experience they made during their time was that they developed a web shop function, which
the customers did not expect or use really, so it never became a success. This was also the reason
they started organizing their work more. He told us that they now have meetings in the office about
new features and stuff, and then doing 1-3 pages of notes and small analysis so everybody knows
what it is about.
Another thing they learned is to communicate with the end user, to get a clear idea about how they
feel about new things. Also when working with clients it is a good idea to set the demands for the
product that is to be made, so both client and company know exactly when the product is finished.

He came with an advice, that they have taken use of themselves in the beginning. And it was to
create digital solutions for their customers for free. In that way they could achieve knowledge on
the market, and their clients would then be able to tell others about it. In this way the company
would also have references where new customers could see what they can do. This is of course only
in the beginning, and as it develops the prices will increase according to costs.

A method Look4Fashion uses and have had a lot of good experiences with, is to make case stories.
This is a method where you describe a situation with a customer, where something really good
happened. This is also good for references.

In the way of marketing ones own company; he said that it was a good idea to aim for at steady
increase, instead of a rapid development. In that way your reputation would also reflect as a
experienced company that knows the market.

Now the company has about 3-400 companies signed up as license payers. And 30,000 users signed
up for the newsletter.

And last of all, his best advice would be only to do it as long it is fun.
