Betty Langston of Sapulpa couldn’t pick just one recipe. Her Christmas cooking traditions are wrapped up in fudge, peanut butter, butterscotch and ginger. Here are a couple of her favorites.

White Coconut Fudge
3 cups sugar 1 cup Milnot stick butter 1 (7-ounce) jar marshmallow creme 1 (12-ounce) package coconut 1 cup pecans 1. In a saucepan, stir sugar, Milnot and butter. Let come to a boil, then boil for 5 minutes. Add marshmallow creme and stir. Add coconuts and pecans. Cool.

Brown Sugar Crinkles

Jaime Michelle Sewell to John Harold Conway IV. The bride-elect is the daughter of Richard and Mary Sewell of Bartlesville. She is the granddaughter of Frank Hodges and the late Ruth Hodges, the late John and Dorothy Betheir and the late Aubrey Sewell. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Francie Hastings Conway and John Harold Conway III, both of Tulsa. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Conway Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Emil H. Hastings. The bride-elect graduated from Union High School and Northeastern State University. She is senior catering sales manager with Doubletree Hotel. The prospective bridegroom graduated from Cascia Hall Preparatory School. He is an Internet production manager with Cox Radio. The wedding is planned for Jan. 6, 2007, on the beach in Cancun, Mexico.

Jennifer Bakht and Adam Carl Doverspike were married Sept. 9, 2006, in Suffolk, Va. The wedding and reception were held at the home of the bride’s parents. The Rev. Corey Warren Tisdale officiated. The bride is the daughter of Dr. Sufia Shahid and Dr. Shahid Shahidullah of Chesapeake, Va., and Dr. Shoaib Bakht and Leann Bakht of Suffolk, Va. The bride graduated from Nansemond Academy and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in foreign service at Georgetown University. She is an intelligence analyst with the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C. The bridegroom is the son of Terry and Connie Doverspike in Tulsa. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Doverspike and Mrs. Joan Hamernik and the late Robert Hamernik. The bridegroom graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in foreign service at Georgetown University and a master’s degree in economics at the University of Chicago. He is a student at Duke University School of Law. Honor attendants were Brittney Salmon and Wes Hermann. Bridesmaids were Erica Doverspike, Melissa Halle and Ashley Shahid. Groomsmen were Lee Boyd, Sgt. Ed Johnson and Josh Williams. The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard W. Schafer of Tulsa. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Cregg and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schafer. The bridegroom is a physician. Laura Karlene Schmidt and Jonathan Ryan Teal were married Sept. 29, 2006, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. The Rev. Dick Read and Rod MacIlvaine officiated. A reception followed at the Mayo Hotel. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Schmidt of Bartlesville. She is the granddaughter of the late Herman and Metta Schmidt and the late Arthur and Grace McElroy. The bride graduated from Bartlesville High School, the University of Oklahoma and attends Webster University. She is a literary assistant with Henry School. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Teal of Tulsa. He is the grandson of Morty and Tobey Lewkowsky and Roderick Teal and the late Charlotte Teal. The bridegroom graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, the University of Tulsa and attended the University of Tulsa School of Law. He is a branch manager with Urban Financial Group. Honor attendants were Sarah Schmidt, Sarah Glasser and Max Heckenkemper. Bridesmaids were Britney Bailey, Megan Proctor, Hollye Sears and Jillian Stephens. Groomsmen were Jonathan Allen, Dustin Crane, David Glasser, Charles Jack, Marc Zien and Paul Zintgraff. Macy Moore and Molly Moore were flower girls, and James Zeisler was the ring bearer. Ushers were Adam Carroll, Tom Poland, David Poland, Kevin Schmidt and Brian Krafft. House party attendants were Courtney Baker, Melissa McBride, Amanda Schmidt and Alison Zeisler. Wedding music included Brad and Kris Schoeppey and the Legends Wedding Quartet. The bride carried a bouquet of raspberry and ivory roses. Wedding colors were champagne and black. The couple spent their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They reside in St. Louis.

Teal-Schmidt

butter, softened 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 egg cup molasses 2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ginger teaspoon cloves teaspoon salt Powdered sugar 1. Cream together butter, brown sugar, egg and molasses until light. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Chill. 2. Roll in 1-inch balls and dip in sugar. Place 3 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Note: Betty adds pecan on each cookie.

This is Cecelia Huddleston’s favorite Christmas cookie. She suggests experimenting with it, using your favorite jam or extract and substituting pecans or coconut for the walnuts.

Raspberry-Nut Pinwheels
2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder cup softened butter 1 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or lemon extract cup seedless raspberry jam 1 cup finely chopped walnuts 1. Sift together flour and baking powder onto wax paper and set aside. Beat together butter, sugar and egg until fluffy. Stir in extract. Gradually add flour mixture, stirring until well combined. 2. Roll out dough between two pieces of wax paper to a 12-by-10-inch rectangle. Remove top piece of wax paper. Spread jam evenly over entire surface of dough. Sprinkle evenly with nuts. Firmly roll up dough from a long side, jellyroll style, removing wax paper as you roll. Wrap roll in wax paper and refrigerate several hours or overnight. 3. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cut roll into generous -inch slices with thin, sharp knife. Transfer slices to ungreased cookie sheet, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake 9 minutes. Cool on rack. Note: Turn the dough log -inch turn after every few cuts to help keep the cookies round.

box Chex cereal (any) package of pretzels can of peanuts or pecans almond bark package (4-by-8-inch squares) 1. Melt almond bark in a double boiler. Mix all other ingredients together in a large bowl. Pour almond bark over all and stir. Spread on cookie sheet to dry. Can put in refrigerator to let set up.

Christmas Almond Roca
pound (1 cup) salted butter cups packed brown sugar teaspoon salt (optional) 1 cup almonds (coarsely chopped and roasted) cup milk or dark chocolate chips 1. Place a large sheet of aluminum foil on counter. Grease lightly all over with butter. Place butter and brown sugar in a saucepan or double boiler. Cook on medium heat until mixture is bubbly and reaches 290 degrees on a candy thermometer. When the butter and sugar mixture has reached 290 degrees, remove from heat. 2. Quickly stir in cup of roasted almonds and pour mixture onto the foil. Allow to set for a few minutes then sprinkle chocolate chips all over the top. Once the chocolate chips soften, spread evenly over the toffee. Sprinkle the remaining cup of almonds over the chocolate. Cool in the refrigerator then break into bite-size pieces. 1
