Especially on Valentine’s Day may God’s blessing from above, fill your hearts with special joy and bring you a day that’s filled with love. Liturgical Update Father Rod will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass on February, 25, 2009 at the school at 1:15 p.m. Parents and parishioners are most welcome to join us. Family Day All Catholic Schools and School Board sites in the Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board will be closed Monday, February 16th., 2009 for “Family Day” statutory holiday.

Kindergarten Registration
We encourage parents to register for Junior and Senior Kindergarten for September. Please bring a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate Birth Certificate Immunization Record Health Card Number Early registration helps us to determine the staff requirements. NOTE: If your child is already attending the Junior Program, he/she is automatically enrolled in the Senior Program for next year. Report Cards Report cards will be sent home on March 13th. Teachers will be arranging any necessary interviews. If any parent would like to have an interview, please do not hesitate to call the teacher for an appointment. March Break For all you lucky people planning a “get away” for March break – the break begins on Monday, March 16th. and continues for the week. The third term will commence on Monday, March 23rd. Have a wonderful holiday!

The Virtue of Faith Each month we will be providing a reading on our Catholic Traditions. This month we have attached a reading on the Virtue of Faith. Basketball Tournaments Junior Girls Tournament will be held on Thursday, February 19th. at McArthur Hall, Queen’s University. Junior Boys will be held on Friday, February 20th. at McArthur. Senior Girls will be held on Monday, February 23rd. at Holy Cross School. Senior Boys will be held on Tuesday, February 24th. at Holy Cross School. Message from J.J. O’Neill School Council – Trish Griffin, Chairperson
As we begin the second half of the school year and the beginning of 2009, the School Council would like thank all of the parents, grandparents and guardians who continue to support the School and the School Council. Whether it is by supporting fundraisers or the volunteering of your time, it is this effort that allows the School Council to continue to make a difference in the education of our children. The School Council has raised $1 769.57 to date through the poinsettia, cheese and epicure fundraisers. Wednesday hot lunch has also raised $848.00. Much more than fundraising, the School Council has had many other achievements since September. These achievements are as follows, Representation at the Archbishop’s Fundraiser Dinner in support of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic Education Foundation. Representation at the Catholic School Council Association meeting. This is an opportunity for a Council Representative to meet other representatives from School Councils in our Board. Arranging for volunteers for the November Book Fair. Set up and operation of the Elf Shopping in December, all proceeds going to The St.Vincent de Paul Society. Completed People for Education School Council Survey. Contributed $100.00 to the Food Sharing Project’s annual Talents and Treasures Auction

Financial support to the school for additional materials in support of the curriculum. Conducted two successful fundraisers and currently offering coffee and fudge from Coffee Cravings for sale. Currently, developing a plan to support an application for the Parents Reaching Out Grant for the 2009/2010 school year. Offering pancakes on Tuesday February 24th to the Junior and Intermediate grades. (CWL is providing pancakes to the primary grades on Thursday February 26th .) Keeping parents informed about our meetings by posting prior meeting minutes and up coming meeting dates and agendas on the school web site.

Last meeting the Council was pleased to welcome two new parents to the meeting, and hope that many more interested parents will consider attending the up coming meetings. Next meeting is February 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the library.

Cake Walk On February 11, the Grade ¾ ad Grade 4/5 classes will be holding a Cake Walk. Money raised from this event will go towards the cost of their field trip. The cakes will be on display in the Library. Tickets will be sold at recesses and lunch. Tickets are 2 for $1.00 and 5 for $2.00. Thank you for your support!
