Dodger Day

Dodgers vs. Angels Saturday, June 28 Depart: City Hall at 5:00 p.m. Return: 11:00 p.m. Approximately Cost: $25 As the Dodgers celebrate 50 years in Los Angeles, we will be on hand as they take on cross-town rivals Los Angeles Angels. With both teams looking to be contenders, it should be a great game! Price includes t-shirt and snacks for all participants. Best of all, four lucky Norwalk youth will be randomly pre-selected to go down on the field before the game. It’s going to be a great time that you will not want to miss.

STAR: Success Through Academics & Recreation
Mondays-Thursdays • 2:30-4:30 p.m. STAR is a mobile recreation program that provides constructive and creative activities for children ages 6 and over. In partnership with the Public Safety Department, STAR activities include homework assistance, outdoor sports and games, arts and crafts, and activities that promote personal awareness. Spring Break Golf Classic (Ages 8-17)
Wednesday, March 26 • 1:00 p.m. Cost: $10 Looking for a way to display your golf skills? Then, sign up for this tournament. Competition will be divided into two divisions of play: ages 8-12 years and 13-17 years. Each golfer will receive a tee gift, and awards will be presented to the top finishers in each division. Come spend some quality time with your mom! This day will be filled with fun, craze, and laughter. We’ll eat some pancakes, eggs, and fresh fruit. You’ll have an opportunity to take a picture with a beautiful backdrop and sing Karaoke. Each family will receive one Polaroid picture. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This day includes a variety of crafts, games, and food. We’ll go around the world and learn about traditions and customs. D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House Museum (All Ages)
Saturday, March 1 & 15 · April 5 & 19 · May 3 & 17, 1:00-4:00 p.m. 12426 Mapledale Street The Hargitt House Museum is a two-story Victorian Eastlake home built in 1891. It is Norwalk’s own nationally registered landmark. The Museum contains D.D. Johnston-Hargitt family heirlooms as well as glimpses from Norwalk’s past and other memorabilia. The Museum is brought to life through docent-led tours given by the Friends of Hargitt House docents. Admission is free; however, donations are always welcome. Please Note: The Museum may be closed in inclement weather; please call on the day of your visit to confirm opening. Rose Garden Celebration

Gilbert H. Sproul Museum

Saturday, June 21 • 1:00-4:00 p.m. D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House Museum The Rose Garden Celebration is an annual event showcasing the garden of the Museum. The day will also feature special one-day displays and exhibits. Hands-on activities for children of all ages are planned and refreshments will be served. This special day is free and open to the public. The D.D. JohnstonHargitt House Museum is a nationally-registered landmark, and contains period pieces from Norwalk’s past and other memorabilia. Unique items include a five-legged dining room table, an old-fashioned butter churn, and a wood-burning stove, to name a few. For more information, please call 929-5702.

Sunday, March 2 • April 6 • May 4 • 1:00-3:00 p.m. Norwalk Park, 12203 Sproul Street Take a trip back in time and enjoy a visit to the historic Sproul Museum located in the heart of Norwalk Park. The Sproul Museum was built in 1874 and was home to the founder of Norwalk, Gilbert H. Sproul. The Museum contains many artifacts depicting the development of the City as well as Sproul family heirlooms. There is no charge for visiting the Museum. Be a Museum Docent! (Ages 18 & Over)
Docents are guides and storytellers. If you enjoy sharing stories, information, and talking to people, become a docent! The D.D. Johnston-Hargitt House and Sproul Museums are seeking interested people to train as Museum docents. A three-month commitment is required. Please call 929-5702 or stop by the Museums for an informal visit during operating hours. Training and supplies are provided at no cost.

Craft Craze

The City of Norwalk offers a wonderful variety of excursions for your enjoyment. Registration is now being taken in the Recreation and Park Services Department, Room 10 at City Hall, and the Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex (unless otherwise noted). All prices include bus transportation and admission, if any. Buses depart from, and return to, the Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex, 13000 Clarkdale Avenue, at the times listed below. Wine Tasting in Temecula (Ages 21 & Older)
Saturday, April 26 Depart: 12:00 p.m. Return: Approximately 6:00 p.m. Cost: $30 Register by Wednesday, April 16

Come and sample some of the finest wines that the Mount Palomar Winery has to offer. This 40-acre winery is located in the heart of Temecula wine country. Each guest will sample six different wine selections accompanied by a tray of assorted jellies and crackers, and will also receive an elegant Mount Palomar souvenir glass. Join a class, work out on your own, or just jump in and enjoy the water at the Norwalk Aquatic Pavilion. Located at Norwalk Park, 12301 Sproul Street, the Aquatic Pavilion is a state-of-theart facility providing the community with opportunities for fun and learning.

Weekends Only • April 26-June 21 1:30-3:15 p.m. and 3:45-5:30 p.m. Cost*: $2.50 per adult $1.50 per child/senior (55+) *Admission fee applies to everyone entering the facility. Recreational swimmers of all ages are invited to cool off and have fun on weekends at the Aquatic Pavilion. Children eight years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Bathing suits are required and lockers and check-in bags are available at no cost. (Bring your own lock.) Swim diapers must be worn by all children three years and younger, and are available for purchase at the Aquatic Pavilion ticket window.

Monday-Friday Cost: $25 per session Swim lessons are designed to develop water safety and swimming skills. Classes meet Monday through Friday. All classes are led by certified Water Safety Instructors. Children should be at least 40” tall and be able to stay actively engaged for a period of 30 minutes. Children are required to show their progress report from the previous level on the first day of classes. Swim diapers are required for all children three years and younger in the Parent & Me classes. Aquatics
Norwalk Stingrays Youth Swim Team (Ages 6-18)
- 8999.201 Monday-Friday • 6:00-8:30 p.m. Cost: $21 per month The Norwalk Stingrays is a novice swim team designed to teach and encourage young people to participate in water sports on a competitive basis. Team members will learn the basic competitive skills and train to compete against other area swim teams. Children should be able to swim front crawl 50 yards continuously and have a basic knowledge of the competitive strokes at time of registration. The monthly fee is due at the beginning of each month.

Adult Lap Swim

April 28-June 20, Monday-Friday 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Saturday • 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Daily Cost: $2.50 for adults $1.50 for seniors (55+) Swim Pass (saves you 20%): $20 for adults $8 for seniors (55+) Use our facility to stay in shape and look great, too. Swimming is one of the most effective and complete exercises you can do. Lap swimmers have dedicated lanes, comfortable water temperature, and the chance to have a great workout.

Teen Water Aerobics (Ages 13-18)

Monday/ Wednesday, May 5-June 18, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Cost: $10 for entire session or $1 per visit Join the trend and get into shape! The Aquatic Pavilion and the Teen Center are joining forces to shape up Norwalk’s teens. Don’t pass up this learning and fitness experience. For more information, please call 929-5622.

Adult Shallow Water Aerobics

April 29-June 19 Monday-Friday • 12:00-1:00 p.m. and 7:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday • 12:00-1:00 p.m. Daily Cost: $2.50 for adults $1.50 for seniors (55+) Swim Pass (saves you 20%): $20 for adults $8 for seniors (55+) This is one of our most popular programs. Make your workouts fun and get into great shape. Our staff is friendly, and loves to make workouts fun and exciting. The pool is accessible to everyone and we keep the water warm for you. This is a great opportunity for an invigorating, toning, and cardio-conditioning workout. It is also an excellent workout for anyone with joint problems.

If swim lessons have not been an option for you due to scheduling or learning difficulty, here is an opportunity to get yourself or your family in the water. Private and Semi-private lessons will be offered around your schedule in a one-onone setting. All ages and levels of swimming are welcome. Registration for Private and Semi-private lessons begins Monday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m. Contact the Aquatic Pavilion at 929-5622 to learn more about the Private and Semi-Private Lesson program.

Inner Tube/Non Inner Tube Water Polo (Ages 8-15)
Not familiar with the game of Water Polo, treading water, or passing a ball? Do not let that stop you from joining our Inner Tube Water Polo program. Here is a new opportunity to learn the game of Water Polo in a creative way. We will teach you the basics of the game and the techniques while using an inner tube to keep you afloat. Learn about Water Polo in a competitive atmosphere while having fun. Participants must possess Level 3 swimming skills at the beginning of each session. At the Cultural Arts Center (CAC), classes and workshops are offered free of charge to Norwalk residents. Classes are 45 minutes in length unless otherwise noted. The Center is located at the Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex, 13200 Clarkdale Avenue. The CAC also houses the Mary Paxon Gallery. Please call 929-5521 for detailed information. NEW! Walleyball
(Ages 16 & Over) Come and join us for a new and exciting class of Walleyball, which is a fast-paced sport similar to volleyball. The word “Wallyball”is a combination of “wall” and “volleyball.” The game is played on indoor racquetball courts where nets are strung across the center. Players are allowed to use the walls to their advantage in an attempt to confuse their opponent by changing the direction of the ball. As well as learning about the game, participants will be able to play against each other. The co-ed teams will be comprised of a minimum of four players (two men and two women). Registration Information
General Information
Registration procedures are aimed at giving priority to Norwalk residents without excluding individuals from other communities. Early registration is encouraged so that class minimums can be reached one week prior to the first class meeting. Classes may be cancelled if enrollment does not meet the minimum requirements. Mail in registration is not accepted. Continuing students are not guaranteed a spot. Fees are to be paid in full at the time of registration. A $5 non-resident fee is charged per person, and applies to all classes. A $4 administrative charge will be assessed for each requested refund or transfer. Refund and transfer requests will only be granted prior to the second regularly scheduled class meeting. If a class is cancelled by the Department, a refund will automatically be processed, and mailed to you. Please allow 4-6 weeks for the refund to be received.
