* Before arriving in the Netherlands, you should ask your own insurance company whether it can provide extra medical cover for your stay abroad, and whether you can take out a personal public liability policy that is valid in the Netherlands. If you cannot obtain supplementary coverage in your own country, you can take out a policy through the Office of International Affairs at the Law Faculty of the VU. The VU has concluded an agreement for this purpose with the Dutch firm Lippmann. This provides for supplementary medical expenses and a public liability policy.

English courses
General information about the English courses:     First semester : 1 September 2009 – 31 January 2010 (please note that lectures finish in December!)

Second semester : 1 February 2010– 31 June 2010 The semesters are roughly divided into two periods of approximately eight weeks each. (Most) exams are planned for: Semester 1 Semester 2 : week 43, week 51 : week 13, week 22

      

Some courses have a maximum amount of students that can attend. Please inform us as soon as possible which courses you would like to enrol in. It is possible to change, add or drop a course. Please inform the Office of International Affairs. A minimum of courses adding up to at least 26 ECTS-credits is required per semester, there is no maximum. Those who have good knowledge of the Dutch language can also enrol in courses of the regular Dutch programme. Please contact the Office of International Affairs should you have any further inquiries. Please visit our website www.law.vu.nl, for course details and specific requirements per course. Click on the English version (top left) and “Exchange programme” The Faculty of Law also offers Criminology courses. Some are accessible for Law students without prior knowledge of Criminology. The final program for the academic year 2009-2010 will be known at a later stage. An overview of the current course offer comes as a supplement with this application form. Accommodation
Accommodation through the university can only be arranged for a full semester: Semester 1: August 15 - January 31 Semester 2: February 1

For information on VU-housing accommodation, please look at the website: www.english.vu.nl/accommodation. All details can be found there. Although the experience is that most students are accommodated through us, housing cannot be guaranteed.

Deposit information To secure your place on the (waiting) list, you need to transfer € 450,- to the law faculty in advance. This amount will be transferred back to you upon arrival. In addition, if you are accommodated you need to pay a deposit to the

housing organisation, either by filling in a credit card form or by making a cash deposit. This amount will be given back when you leave your housing in good condition.
