Georgia Academy for the Blind School Council November 12, 2004 MISSION The Georgia Academy for the Blind endeavors to provide quality education services to Georgia’s students who have visual impairments or multiple disabilities in order to empower them to achieve their highest level of independence. The Georgia Academy for the Blind School Council met in regular session on Friday, November 12, 2004, 3:00 pm, in the Hendrix Building Media Center, 2895 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia. School Council Members present Mr. Tom Ridgeway Mrs. Donna Fox Mr. Mark Brunner Mrs. Miki Causey Dr. Arensman Mr. Leon Thomas Mrs. Cindy Greene School Council Members not present: Mr. Randy Waters Mrs. Regina McDuffie The following visitors attended the meeting: Dr. Geter Mrs. Jones Ms. Kaye Cannon Call to Order Dr. Arensman called the meeting to order at 3:05 pm. Inspiration Dr. Arensman asked for those present to share an inspiration. Several members shared their thoughts. Pledge of Allegiance Mrs. Donna Fox led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag. Recognition of Visitors Dr. Arensman welcomed the visitors and asked for questions. Approval of Agenda A report from the communication subcommittee was added. A motion was made and seconded to accept the agenda with the additions. The motion passed. Approval of the minutes from the September meeting Brunner read the minutes from the September meeting. Mr. Ridgeway made a motion to accept the minutes. Mrs. Fox seconded the motion. The motion was passed. Unfinished Business Dr. Arensman discussed the steering committee and the progress made in regards to the NAC/SAC report. Donna Fox reported that the advisory team meets each week. Mrs. Causey reported that the PTSA meeting was well attended. Mr. Ridgeway moved to follow the HB1190 revisions in regards to the Director being the head of the Council. Mrs. Fox seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken, the motion passed with a unanimous vote. Dr. Arensman suggested that the council look over the By-Laws and that a final draft be completed during a special meeting. Mr. Thomas suggested that we use the furniture stored instead of purchasing new. Dr. Arensman advised she would look into it and get quotes to report to the council. Information Items Dr. Geter and Mrs. Jones reported on the GVEST conference and how GAB took an active role in the conference. Dr. Arensman discussed the Disney on Ice field trip and how excited our students were to participate in the event and the positive newspaper coverage. Mrs. Causey reported the PTSA membership contest was underway and they would be having a Carraba's night fundraiser. Dr. Geter reported on the American Printing House Conference Adjournment With no further business to come before the School Council, the meeting was adjourned at 4:05 pm.
