Chemical nature

Paliocrom® Sparkling Red L 3505 is a preparation of aluminum flakes, coated with iron[III] oxide (Fe2O3) and pasted with a mineral oil (approx. 15–25 %). In experiments on animals, Paliocrom® Sparkling Red L 3505 did not display acute toxicity. No acute irritant effect was shown in tests to determine the acute irritation of the skin and mucous membranes. Elevated vapor concentrations of the hydrocarbon mixture used can lead to irritation of the eyes and, on inhalation, irritation of the respiratory passages, headache and dizziness. Aluminum and iron oxides are a natural component of practically all rocks and soils. The aluminum contained in the pigment reacts with water to form hydrogen and aluminum hydroxide. The mineral oil component is decomposed rapidly and completely in wastewater treatment plants but has influence on aquatic micro organisms. Therefore, Paliocrom® Sparkling Red L 3505 should not be discharged into a body of water without pre-treatment. WGK 2, hazard to waters (VwVwS of May 17, 1999, annex 4) Germany Labeling according to the German Ordinance on dangerous substances or corresponding EU directives: F R 11 R 66 S7 S 23 S 24 highly flammable highly flammable repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking keep container tightly closed do not breathe vapor/spray avoid contact with skin
