• For each problem sketch a graph of the situation described. In each case, the graph should show the distance (meters) between the person and the object as a function of time (seconds).

Problem 1
• Marty is standing .5 meters from a desk when he starts walking away from it, until he is 3.5 meters from the desk. He stays there for 2 seconds, then walks back toward the desk. All of this takes 10 seconds.

Problem 2
• Wendy is standing 3 meters from the window. She is getting hot, so she moves closer to the window. Once she is 1 meter from the window she gets cold again and decides to move back where she started. She does all this in 10 seconds.

Problem 3
• Robert is standing 4 meters from the pool. His brother is about to jump in so he moves so he is 6 meters from the pool. After his brother jumps, Robert moves back toward the pool so he is 2.5 meters from the edge of the pool. This takes 10 seconds.

William notices the man smells like cigarettes so he moves away so that he is 5 meters from the smoker. • Then he notices he is standing near a woman with really bad body odor, so he decides he would rather smell cigarettes than B.O. so he moves so that he is 3 meters away from the smoke-smelling-man. • This entire process lasts 10 seconds.
