All screenings will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursdays and Fridays in the Performance Arts Room, SC 346. Colleagues in all fields are encouraged to request screenings for academic purposes. In 1931, three aboriginal girls escape after being plucked from their homes to be trained as domestic staff and set off on a trek across the Outback. English.

A Place Called Chiapas[Canada, 1998, Dir. Nettie Wild] Unrated VHS 89 mins.
A trip into the perilous state of Chiapas in southern Mexico is taken in this documentary, which focuses on the Zapatista National Liberation Army and its mysterious leader, Subcomandante Marcos. In Spanish, Tzotzil and English with subtitles.

Children of Heaven Bacheha-Ye aseman [Iran, 1997, Dir. Majid Majidi] PG DVD 88 mins.
When Ali loses his sister Zahra’s school shoes, their parents are too poor to afford another pair and Ali and Zahra must develop a plan to avoid having their poor parents discover the truth. There is a prize in a school race that could solve their troubles, but it is not the first prize. Will Ali lose by winning? Farsi with English subtitles.

Rosalba, busy housewife, decides to take a personal holiday to Venice and makes an enchanting life for herself their. She must now decide to return to her old life or embrace her new one. Italian with subtitles.

Madres de la Plaza de Mayo [Argentina, 1985, Dir. Lourdes Portillo] Unrated 64 mins.
This Oscar-nominated documentary tells the story of mothers who regularly protest the loss of loved ones called the desaparecidos, or disappeared ones, that vanished during the Dirty War, a bleak moment in Argentina's history. Spanish with subtitles.

Osama [Afghanistan,2003, Dir. Siddiq Barmak] PG-13 DVD 83 mins.
The first film made in Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban, this story offers a portrait of life under the oppressive fundamentalist regime. Women are banned from working and cannot leave their homes without a male escort. However, a widow disguises her 12-year-old daughter, “Osama” as a boy so that they may survive. Pashtu with English subtitles.

An old rural postman who has been delivering mail in the mountains in Hunan province has retired from his post and is teaching his son the job on his last round through his route. They both face the journey with heavy hearts. Mandarin with English subtitles.
