The conference schedule is subject to change. Monday evening will feature a wine and cheese reception. The latter part of Wednesday afternoon is left free so that participants can enjoy the campus and explore the surrounding area. A celebratory banquet/cookout will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Getting to St. John’s University
By Car: Directions to St. John’s University from Minneapolis and St. Paul Take I-694 or I-494 to I-94 west. Take I-94 west to exit 156. (About 20 min. past the St. Cloud exit.) At the top of the exit 156 off ramp turn left onto Co. Rd. 159. Follow Co. Rd. 159 straight for about 1 mile until you reach the four way stop at St. John’s University. Go straight through the four way stop. Turn right at the second entrance after the four way stop. (Just before the large blue Welcome to St. John’s sign board.) You are now in the Mary Hall parking lot. You may park in any space that does not say reserved or handicapped. The drive from Minneapolis is about 1½ hours. Air: The St. Cloud area is served by the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, as well as the St. Cloud Regional Airport. (Northwest/Delta only for flights to St. Cloud.) It is also possible to fly into Fargo, ND and drive (about 2 hours). See directions above, but follow I94 east to exit 156. The conference will be held in the Peter Engel Science Center at St. John’s University. See the CSBSJU home page (http://www.csbsju.edu) for campus information, including a campus map.
Check-in will be available in Mary Hall until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19. Participants arriving after that time should call 363-2240 to reach an events assistant. Lectures and computer labs will be held in Peter Engel Science Center 244 and adjoining rooms. Opening reception and refreshment breaks will be in Peter Engel 269
Lodging and Meals
The St. John’s campus offers air-conditioned single and double occupancy rooms at very reasonable rates. Families can also be accommodated in an apartment style setting. A campus meal plan with many vegetarian options is available to conference participants, or meals can be purchased as you go. Participants may also arrange their own accommodations at nearby motels in St. Joseph, Avon or St. Cloud. Campus Housing and Meals Single occupancy (single bed, private bath) rooms are available for $45 per night, and double occupancy (twin beds, private bath) for $36 per person, per night. Please note that there are a limited number of double occupancy rooms. All rooms are air-conditioned. Meals will be served cafeteria style in Guild Hall while the Refectory is undergoing renovation. A meal plan for the conference (Monday breakfast through Friday lunch) can be purchased for $105 or meals may be purchased separately (Breakfast: $7.90, Lunch: $9.00, Dinner: $10.25). Exceptions: The conference banquet is added to the registration fee separately, as indicated on the registration form. Also, no conference activities have been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, so that participants can take advantage of surrounding attractions. For flexibility, the Wednesday evening meal is not included in the meal plan. Participants may eat on campus or at one of several local restaurants. Local Attractions and Recreational Opportunities
The St. John’s Campus features 2500 acres of woods and trails, as well as a lake for swimming and canoeing. There are also about a dozen area golf courses, and we are just minutes from the Lake Wobegon bicycle trail. On campus, participants are welcome to visit the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library, the Abbey Church, the St. John’s Pottery, or make use of the athletic facilities (pool, fitness center, etc.) at the Warner Palaestra.
