                            GUIDE TO STAFF APPLICATION
We sincerely appreciate your interest in joining staff at Youth With a Mission Strategic Frontiers. If you
have any questions, please feel free to contact Personnel at (719) 226-3110, or e-mail us at

Before considering any type of involvement in YWAM’s ministry here at YWAM-SF, we urge you to
seek God’s guidance through prayer, Bible study, and counsel from your pastor, mature Christian
friends, and family.

As is our policy throughout YWAM, each staff member is responsible for trusting God for his/her own
financial needs. We recognize the importance of being sent out with the blessing of a home church,
secure in knowing that you have a firm foundation of prayer and financial support. A sufficient
amount pledged or available for your support is regarded as one confirmation of God’s call for you
to serve with us here in Colorado Springs.

Please complete all of the questions on the application form. Husbands and wives should complete
separate forms. Use extra paper to answer questions if the space provided is inadequate. Please
type or print clearly with black ink.

Detach the YWAM Leadership Reference form and the YWAM Supervisor or Employer Reference
form and forward them to your selected references, after filling in the top section of each form. We
cannot begin to process your Application until both forms are returned to Personnel (either mail or
fax 719-527-2680). It is your responsibility to follow up with your references to make sure they return
the forms in a timely manner. Reference forms are confidential; therefore, please do not read them
yourself. Please tell your references that we may call them to talk about the reference they
submitted.

Read the Financial Information for Staff Applicants section and complete the several forms to be
submitted with this Application.

YWAM-SF has a training requirement in addition to the DTS/CDTS. All staff must complete the School
of Strategic Missions & practicum within two years of becoming YWAM-SF staff. For YWAMers with
extensive training and field experience adjustments may be made to this requirement.

You should plan on completing the training requirement as soon as possible.

The SOSM, and most other secondary schools, is a 3-month lecture phase with a minimum
practicum of 2 months.

All staff applicants are asked to obtain a background check. When you submit this application you
will receive an email with a web link where you will fill out your information and pay an online fee.
The background check summary will be sent to us. If you completed your DTS, CDTS, or a YWAM
Secondary School here at SF within the last 12 months, this requirement is waived since a
background check was done for those schools.

When the Application is completed, send it to YWAM-SF with the following:

1.     COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM, including signatures, all requested information, and all
       requested forms. This will include the following:
              Application Form
              Budget Template
              Support Raising Form
              Statement of Commitment – initialed, signed & dated.
              Memorandum of Agreement – signed & dated.
              Statement of Burial – signed and dated.
              Internet Acceptable Use Policy Internet User Agreement – signed & dated.

2.     NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE of $25.00 (USD) per person, $40.00 per couple/family.
       We accept check or international money order only, but not cash. The fee can also be paid
       via credit card at https://secure.ywamsf.org/pages/Forms/Donate.php. Pull down the last
       drop menu and select application fee (staff). The single fee is $25.75, and couple/family is
       $41.20 if you pay by credit card (to cover bank charges). If the drop menu is unavailable,
       please select “other” from the drop down menu, pay the fee online and send an email to
       accounting@ywamsf.org, telling them you have just paid your staff application fee online.

3.     RECENT PHOTOGRAPH OF YOURSELF attached to the upper right hand corner of the
       application form.

All responses are strictly confidential and your honesty is appreciated.

Once the Application and Reference Forms are received, they will be sent to Campus leadership
for a prayerful decision. Decisions typically take 3 to 4 weeks.

When you are accepted as staff you will be notified by Personnel. This notification will include any
conditions to be met prior to arriving at the Campus. It will also tell you when you may arrive at the
               Campus. Please do not come to the Campus prior to this notification.




                               YOUTH WITH A MISSION (YWAM)
                           To Know God and To Make Him Known

A vision of waves:     It began in 1960 with an ordinary young man and an extraordinary vision.
Loren Cunningham described it as a waking dream. He saw a map of the world with waves
crashing onto the continents, advancing inland until all the nations were covered. Loren says, “As I
watched, the waves became young people of all races...talking to people on street corners and
outside bars. Going from house to house. Helping the lonely and the hungry. Caring for people
everywhere they went...” That God-given vision has become a reality. Loren started YWAM in 1960.
Since then, thousands have been involved worldwide in fulfilling Christ’s commandment to, “Go
into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15)
Youth With A Mission is people:       YWAMers are all ages -- young people, families, and retired
persons. We come from many ethnic and educational backgrounds, from many denominations
and countries. We love Jesus and thank God for allowing us to play a part in helping to fulfill the
Great Commission. YWAM has over 15,000 staff and annually trains approximately 25,000 short-term
workers to minister in over 1000 operating locations in 140 countries.
Three-fold thrust:     There are three main ways we are involved in the goal of taking the Gospel
to all the world: Evangelism - spreading God’s message, Training - preparing workers to reach
others, and Mercy Ministries - showing God’s love through practical assistance. These three

ministries are carried out in many different ways by the basic unit of YWAM -- teams, which can be
small or large, mobile or localized, made up of short-term volunteers or long-term staff. Each of
these teams is committed to a specific goal of evangelism, training or mercy ministry, working in
cooperation with local churches and sister organizations.
Statement of purpose:                Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians from
many denominations dedicated to presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ personally to this
generation, to mobilize as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of
believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. As citizens of God’s Kingdom, we are called
to love, worship, and obey our Lord, to love and serve His Body, the Church, and to present the
whole Gospel for the whole person throughout the whole world. We of YWAM believe that the Bible
is God’s inspired and authoritative Word, revealing that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, that man is
created in God’s image, that He created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ, that although
all men have sinned and come short of God’s glory, God has made salvation possible through the
death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that repentance, faith, love and obedience are
fitting responses to God’s initiative of grace towards us, that God desires all men to be saved and
to come to the knowledge of the truth, and that the Holy Spirit’s power is demonstrated in and
through us for the accomplishing of Christ’s last commandment, “Go ye into all the world and
preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15)



YOUTH WITH A MISSION STRATEGIC FRONTIERS: MISSION and VISION
Mission Statement:     We are a YWAM community called to mobilize and multiply followers of Christ
to bring the kingdom of God to the least-reached. We focus on strategic issues, seasons, places,
peoples, and areas of influence in society. We disciple each other in healthy community, and live
out the lordship of Christ locally and globally.

Vision Statement:      Using everything we’ve got to get the gospel to the least reached.

            FINANCIAL INFORMATION FOR STAFF APPLICANTS
YWAM does not pay any salary. All staff members need to have their own financial resources or
pledged financial support that is adequate to cover all of their financial needs. We believe having
adequate financial support is vital to a successful start as a missionary. You are required to raise
your own support from churches, family and friends, or use your own financial resources.

If you need information as to how to raise support, we recommend you read the book “Funding
Your Ministry”, by Scott Morton.


 Support Guidelines:

 1.      If you desire to live on campus, we require the following committed support:
         -       a single person should raise a minimum of $1,000 per month.
         -       a couple should raise a minimum of $1,600 per month.
         -       if children are living with you, you should raise an additional $200
         per month per child.

 2.      If you desire to live off campus, you should raise additional support of $400 to $800 per
         month. Apartments in Colorado Springs rent for about $400 to $1,200 per month,
         depending on the size and location.

The Support Guidelines will assist you to stay current on your staff support and monthly fees and
other ongoing living expenses, enabling you to be free to invest yourself in the work of the ministry
without financial burdens

The amounts shown in the Support Guidelines should cover the basics of living on Campus – housing
rent, meals, your staff contribution, gas, car maintenance and insurance, basic medical insurance,
recreation, ministry expenses, etc.

Paid jobs outside of YWAM-SF are not permitted.

Specific fees and expected costs for staff living on Campus are shown in the Budget Template on
Application pages 4-5. This Budget Template is for you to use to see how much your monthly costs
will total. Please fill out this Budget Template; use it as a guide to determine the amount of financial
support, over and above the amounts shown in the Guidelines, that you may need monthly.

We need you to fill out the Support Raising Form on Application page 6 showing the committed
support you expect to receive monthly.

You may submit your Application even if your monthly support amount does not meet the
Guidelines. However, if you are accepted as staff, you will not be allowed to arrive at the Campus
until your support is at, or close to, the Guidelines level. In this case, Personnel will advise you of
what is required. As you work on your support raising, you will be asked to submit a revised Monthly
Support List.

As you apply to become staff at this Campus, we and asking you to join the whole ministry of YWAM
Strategic Frontiers. Our philosophy regarding ministry is that all positions are valid and spiritual. Some
people are gifted and talented in accounting and some in maintenance. One gift is no more
spiritual than the other and both are needed in our ministry to accomplish our mission.

You will have a primary ministry; you may have a secondary ministry in which to serve. Your primary
ministry will be with a Ministry Team where you spend most of your time; if you have a secondary
ministry, it will be with a different Ministry Team. You also will have a campus contribution, typically
4-hours per week. Your campus contribution typically entails a services area. This requires many
people to do various jobs that may not fall under their “ministry”.

In addition, we all serve in occasional capacities unrelated to our ministry calling, i.e., kitchen
duties/lunch preparation, All-Hands-On-Deck, security patrol (for men), etc. The kitchen
duties/lunch preparation is something all staff do, usually 3 to 5 times each quarter.

You are asked to make two commitments: one to YWAM and one to YWAM-SF.
The commitment you make to YWAM is the Memorandum of Agreement. You must sign and date
this as part of your Staff Application. Please read through this carefully, because this is where you
make a two-year commitment to YWAM. The Memorandum of Agreement is our “proof ” (should it
ever be required) to the Internal Revenue Service that you and our other staff members have
made long-term (two-year) commitments.

The commitment you make to YWAM-SF is to the primary ministry or Ministry Team you will be
working with. This commitment can be made during the application process or shortly after your

application is approved and you arrive on Campus. This commitment needs to be for at least one
year.



                                    The NEHEMIAH PLAN
The inspiration for the “Nehemiah Plan” came from the story of many exiled Israelites being allowed
to return to Jerusalem in order to rebuild the city, as decreed by King Artaxerxes. The story is told in
the Old Testament book of Nehemiah.

Here at our YWAM campus the Leadership was motivated to create a structure that allows all new
staff to devote some time to “building the wall” and “building the city” of YWAM Strategic Frontiers.
This means that all new staff are required to help out in a ministry other than their primary ministry
they are otherwise committed to for three months during their first two-year commitment at the SF
Campus. (Our desire is to have the Nehemiah Plan completed as soon as possible, at least within
their first year as staff.)

Why do we do this? We want new staff to gain an understanding of how the Campus operates on
a daily basis. We feel a broad exposure to these operations will give new staff an appreciation of
the Campus operations and may inspire a call in one of these ministries.

It takes many people, all of our staff, to effectively run our YWAM campus in a fashion that gives
glory to God, serves the students and staff, and keeps our mission projects going globally. Even
though we may be accountable within one particular ministry, we can’t afford to let any ministry
struggle in manpower or assistance. In some cases, if one ministry struggles, all areas (from schools
to accounting) are affected.

In Nehemiah we see that it was through the help and cooperation of many people that the wall
was built. The wall then served everyone within the wall. As the wall served many people in
Jerusalem, here at YWAM-SF there are certain areas that are critical to running the entire campus.
The “wall” for us is the ministries that operate our facilities daily: kitchen, housekeeping,
maintenance and more. While these daily operational ministries are not the reason that we exist,
without them running effectively, we will cease to exist. It will take all of us to contribute to “our
wall” to keep it running well.

Most new staff’s Nehemiah Plan will look like this:

1.   Within their first two-year commitment, all new staff serve “on the wall” for one quarter, which
     will be 11 or 12 weeks.

2.   This service will be half days, either morning or afternoons; the other half of the day will be
     working with their primary ministry.

3.   To make this work, new staff will not take vacation or support raising time off, do outreach, or
     take or staff a school, etc. It is a committed time.

There may be a few exceptions to the Nehemiah Plan, but all will give some time to “The Wall”.
These exceptions may be:

1.   The wife of families with children under the age of 12 years.

2.   The new staff that are immediately going to staff a school. Under special circumstances, such
     as the School of Biblical Studies, they may be allowed to do their Nehemiah Plan after they
     have completed staffing the school. In this case, the Nehemiah Plan could be done full-time
     over six weeks instead of half-time over three months.

                  PET INFORMATION FOR STAFF APPLICANTS

The only pets allowed to reside on Campus are fish. The only pets that may visit the Campus are
Service Dogs, i.e., licensed dogs who are required by the owner, which must be on a leash, have a
service dog vest, and be under the control of their owner.


             HOUSING INFORMATION FOR STAFF APPLICANTS
Prior to accepting new staff we look at our housing situation. If you are accepted, we will make
every effort to place you in Campus housing that will be comfortable for you and that will best fit
your needs. Campus housing may not be immediately available. If accepted, you may be
required to wait until housing becomes available, or raise enough support to live off Campus. You
will be responsible for your own furniture and other housing needs; the Campus does not provide
beds, bedding, chest of drawers, refrigerator, microwave, etc.

It is important to realize that it is the Housing Committee and Personnel who decide in which room
you will live. We encourage you to talk with other staff about roommate possibilities, but it is not
possible for you to decide for yourself or make promises to other residents about where you will live.

Before you agree to join our staff you need to know that our need may require you to change
roommates from time to time. Staff come and go, which brings changes to housing situations.
Please bear in mind that the Housing Committee and Personnel want you to be happy and will
listen to any housing request you may have.

If there is a vacant room next to you and we need a double unit to accommodate a new family,
we may ask you to consider moving to a new room. If two people of the same sex leave separate
rooms at the same time, the remaining residents may be asked to room together.

First month rent and room deposit are required upon arrival. The room deposit cannot be counted
as the last month’s rent, and will be refunded if the room is in good condition upon leaving.


                  KEY INFORMATION FOR STAFF APPLICANTS
We use different keys for interior doors and for exterior doors.

Interior door keys: If you live on the Campus, you, your spouse and older children can all receive a
key for your room door.

If you work in an office on the Campus, you will receive a key to the office door.

Exterior door keys: Only one key will be issued per person.

There is a $5 non-refundable key fee for each key issued. Keys belong to YWAM SF and must be
returned when you are moving off campus (room key) or leaving the ministry. Lost or unreturned
keys will be subject to a replacement charge.

You, your spouse, and children age 12 and older living with you on the Campus, can each receive
an exterior door key.

If you live off Campus, you and your spouse will each receive an exterior door key; your children will
not receive an exterior door key.

STATEMENT OF BURIAL                                        1 of 1

We at Youth With A Mission encourage each YWAM staff applicant to seriously consider some
possible consequences of mission’s work and training. Although death is extremely rare in service
with Youth With A Mission, it is nevertheless an experience that awaits each one of us eventually.
It is important that we all prepare for such possibilities and have a clear plan of action if such
instances arise during our time of study or service within Youth With A Mission.

In traveling in less developed countries, diseases are more prevalent. Fatal accidents, sickness
and mishaps can occur. YWAM does everything possible to protect staff and students while on
the field, but death is something that can occur. In these countries, burial is often a real problem.

We endeavor to maintain a Christian view of death, in that we believe it is not the final step, but
just a passage. The person is not in the coffin, but only his/her earthly shell. Therefore the priority
for limited resources on outreach and frontline work must be for living. In the case of death,
YWAM cannot commit to cover the expenses of burial or transport home from the country of
death developed or non-developed countries alike. We would strongly encourage burial on the
field, as decay can start very quickly. Shipping a body home could cost several thousand dollars
and often a special expensive coffin is required by law in some countries, as well as having
someone accompany the coffin on the return journey. If the family desires to see a body
transported back home, the family must incur the entire cost. Any burial costs incurred while on
outreach (in the country that the death and burial occurs) are the responsibility of the
deceased’s family as well. Note: It is the responsibility of every individual or family (staff or
volunteer) to have the Field Burial or Death Related Remains Transport Insurance, not YWAM.

I agree that in the case of my death while on outreach in conjunction with Youth With A Mission
that they may carry out the burial in the location of my death. If my family desires to see my
body shipped home, they will agree to cover all expenses incurred. I hereby absolve Youth With
A Mission, its staff and associates, from any responsibility for burial costs.

Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international religious movement. It was organized as a
corporation under the laws of the state of California for the purpose of carrying out the Great
Commission of Jesus Christ found in Mark 16:15, Matthew 25:35-40, and Matthew 28:16-20.

    Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians from many denominations
    dedicated to presenting Jesus Christ personally to this generation, to mobilize as many as
    possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in
    fulfilling the Great Commission. As Christians of God's Kingdom, we are called to love,
    worship, and obey our Lord, to love and serve the Church, and to present the whole Gospel
    for the whole person throughout the whole world.

    We of Youth With A Mission believe that the Bible is God's inspired and authoritative word,
    revealing that Jesus Christ is God's Son, that we are created in God's image; that He
    created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ; that although all people have sinned
    and come short of God's glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the
    cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that repentance, faith, love, and obedience are
    fitting responses to God's initiative of grace toward us; that God desires all people to be
    saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth; and that the Holy Spirit's power is
    demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishing of Christ's last commandment, "Go
    ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).

The Youth With A Mission-Strategic Frontiers (YWAM-SF) was organized in 1996 as a separate and
independent corporation under the laws of the State of Colorado for the purpose of carrying
out the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Specifically, YWAM-SF is called to mobilize, equip,
send and sustain missionaries working to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the least reached
peoples in the 10/40 Window. (YWAM-SF is recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service code,
section 501(c)(3), as a nonprofit organization and as a “religious order.”)

YWAM-SF invites qualified people who are dedicated to these purposes to become staff
Members to work as Christian Missionaries. It is expected, therefore, that individuals who feel
called to join YWAM-SF, will join as volunteers (i.e., in the sense of not being a paid employee of
YWAM-SF), hereinafter referred to as staff Members. They are expected to freely contribute their
talents, labor and their lives to carry out the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, subordinating all
worldly and personal ambitions to a total commitment to fulfill the Great Commission. It is
understood that the relationship between YWAM-SF and the staff Member is as co-workers for
the glory of God, with the understanding that there is a pattern of discipline and structure of
authority within YWAM-SF which he/she agrees to submit to.

Based on YWAM’s Foundational Values, it is understood and acknowledged by the individual
that as a staff Member of YWAM-SF working as a Christian Missionary, their primary calling is to
Know God and Make Him Known (Values #1 & #2), and that they are:
 To demonstrate a commitment to be a follower of Jesus Christ; to seek, honor and obey His
    voice; and to freely live out this calling on their lives (Values #3 & #9).
 To be visionary, to exhibit servant leadership, practice hospitality, to first do then teach, and
    to champion young people (Values #5, #6, #11, #12, #16, & #17).
 To live a spiritual life that is dedicated to the practice of worship, intercession and prayer
    (Value #4).
 To value both individuals and families (Values #14 & #15).

   To practice dependence on God for financial provision (Value #16).

   To recognize that the YWAM movement is broad-structured and decentralized (Value #7)
    and is international and interdenominational (Value #8).
   To communicate to those we serve with, those who support us and those we are serving
    (Value #18).

It is understood that the staff Member must practice a life of dependence on God and therefore
secure contributions sufficient to cover his/her own ministry expenses and personal support from
churches, family, friends, other organizations or persons, or to provide support from his/her own
resources. Staff Members may use the YWAM-SF name to secure contributions for their support
that is processed through Donor Services at YWAM-SF, provided they have signed YWAM-SF’s
Deputized Fundraising Agreement.

The staff Member will be allowed to share in and use whatever facilities or resources YWAM-SF
may be able to provide, as long as they remain in good standing with YWAM-SF. They shall have
no authority to enter into any contract or obligation on behalf of YWAM-SF unless approved by
the Board of Directors of YWAM-SF. There are no promises made by either party to the other
regarding anything not mentioned in this Memorandum of Agreement.

With these understandings, his/her calling and dedication in mind, the individual whose name
appears below, who has successfully completed a Discipleship Training School (DTS), and after
prayerful consideration, hereby applies to become a staff Member of YWAM-SF to work as a
Christian Missionary.

                INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE AGREEMENT                                          1 of 2

Purpose
The goal of this Agreement is to outline appropriate and inappropriate use of YWAM’s Internet
resources, including the use of browsers, electronic mail and instant messaging, file uploads and
downloads, and voice communications. Use of these services is subject to the following
conditions.

Appropriate Use
Individuals at YWAM are encouraged to use the Internet to further the goals and objectives of
YWAM SF and your personal support. The types of activities that are encouraged include:

1.   Communication with fellow workers, business partners of YWAM and clients within the
     context of an individual’s assigned responsibilities;
2.   Acquiring or sharing information necessary or related to the performance of an individual’s
     assigned responsibilities and personal support raising;
3.   Participating in educational or professional development activities, including online hobbies
     and creative support raising activities;
4.   Personal use for non-working residential spouses provided use is in compliance with other
     stated guidelines.

Inappropriate Use
Individual Internet use will not interfere with other’s productive use of Internet resources. Users will
not violate network policies of any network accessed through their account. Internet use at
YWAM will comply with all Federal and Colorado laws, all YWAM policies, and all YWAM
contracts. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

1.   The Internet may not be used for illegal or unlawful purposes, including, but not limited to,
     copyright infringement, obscenity, libel, slander, fraud, defamation, plagiarism, harassment,
     intimidation, forgery, impersonation, illegal gambling, soliciting for illegal pyramid schemes,
     and computer tampering (e.g., spreading computer viruses).
2.   Individuals may not establish YWAM or personal computers as participants in any peer-to-
     peer network, unless approved by YWAM SF IT.
3.   In the interest of maintaining network performance, users should not send unreasonably
     large electronic mail attachments or video files not needed for business purposes.
4.   Likewise, in the interest of maintaining network performance, users should not view
     unreasonably large video files (>200mb) or streaming media during office hours unless
     approved by Leadership or YWAM SF IT. (Examples: YouTube higher than 360p resolution,
     streaming radio for more than 20 minutes per day, Video Skype more than 20 minutes per
     day.

Failure to Comply
Violations of this Agreement will be treated like other allegations of wrongdoing at YWAM.
Allegations of misconduct will be adjudicated according to established procedures. Sanctions
for inappropriate use of the Internet may include, but are not limited to, one or more of the
following:
1. Temporary or permanent revocation of access to some or all YWAM computing and
      networking resources and facilities;
2. Disciplinary action according to applicable YWAM policies; and/or
3. Legal action according to applicable laws and contractual agreements.

Monitoring and Filtering
YWAM may monitor any Internet activity occurring on YWAM’s equipment, or personal
equipment or accounts. YWAM currently employs filtering software to limit access to sites on the
Internet. If YWAM discovers activities that do not comply with applicable law or YWAM policy,
records retrieved may be used to document the wrongful content in accordance with due
process.

Disclaimer
YWAM assumes no liability for any direct or indirect damages arising from the user’s connection
to the Internet. YWAM is not responsible for the accuracy of information found on the Internet
and only facilitates the accessing and dissemination of information through its systems. Users are
solely responsible for any material that they access and disseminate through the Internet.

We encourage you to use your Internet responsibly. Should you have any questions regarding

Internet Acceptable Use Agreement

Agreement, I may face legal or disciplinary action according to applicable law or YWAM policy.

I hereby agree to indemnify and hold YWAM and its officers, trustees, employees, and agents
harmless for any loss, damage, expense or liability resulting from any claim, action or demand
arising out of or related to the user’s use of YWAM owned computer resources and the network,
including reasonable attorney fees. Such claims shall include, without limitation, those campusd
on trademark or service mark infringement, trade name infringement, copyright infringement,
unfair competition, defamation, unlawful discrimination or harassment, and invasion of privacy.
