									ORAL PRESENTATION

This SAC will be completed in the
      second week of school
        (February 10 – 14)
DO NOT START TO
    PANIC…

YOU HAVE 11 WEEKS TO
 PREPARE FOR THIS SAC
  BE CONFIDENT!

YOU HAVE THE EXPERIENCE!
 Issue selection
You will have 6 choices to choose
from for your presentation:
1. Carbon tax
2. Euthanasia
3. Live animal exports
4. Obesity
5. Horse and greyhound racing
6. East-West tollway link
Guidelines for your
   presentation
Ø this is NOT an informative talk
Ø It is a persuasive presentation
  with a contention
Ø With supporting arguments
Ø An opposing argument and your
  rebuttal
Ø It is 5-7 minutes in length
Guidelines continued
1. Adopt a persona - introduce yourself (in
character) and briefly outline your involvement/
   interest in the issue

2. Establish the context – give the background
information that led up to this issue

3. Clarify and identify your audience - what is
their interest, why are they listening to you?

4. Where are you and why? Why is your audience
   attending and listening to you?
         Think about:
Ø How you will engage your audience?

Ø How you will introduce your issue?

Ø What persuasive techniques you will use
  to influence/position/sway/ manipulate/
create an impact on your audience?

Ø How you will conclude? (Not with ‘that’s it,
  I’m done’!!!)
Finally, think about:
Ø Your eye contact with your audience
Ø Your body language and posture
Ø Your voice projection – can your
  audience hear you clearly?
Ø Your pace – don’t ‘speed speak’
Ø Your tone and tonal shifts
Ø Your fluency – Is your presentation
  grammatically correct? Does is flow
  smoothly?
Now you are ready to
     deliver…

… with confidence and success.
