be offering a free “Make and Take” card on Thursday, May 11 and Saturday, May 13. It’s a great chance to learn how to use Colorbox fluid chalks and decorative corner punches, and try one of the new EK Success fold-over punches. We have lots of new classes on the schedule for May and June. If you have been wondering about digital scrapbooking, we are sponsoring our first annual Digital Discovery Weekend from May 19 to May 21, in partnership with Epson America, Inc. We are flying in two nationally published digital scrapbooking teachers to share their tips. Students will leave classes with detailed booklets with stepby-step instructions and CDs with exercises to try at home. We have also planned demonstrations, giveaways, and a free “Make and Take” card using Epson products. Next, we’re proud to present our first annual Pulpy Paper Party on June 10 and 11. Charlotte Hayes, our new artist in residence at Carolina Memories, will teach packs of partygoers the art of paper making in perfectly pleasant hour-long sessions. We wanted to do this to celebrate spring, since this is a fun (but messy) class that’s best taught outdoors in beautiful weather. This is also a terrific class for kids and parents to take together. Make your reservations soon!

Queens of the Crop
We’ve moved our regular commentary to the back page — but you’re not getting rid of us that easily! And speaking of sticking around, we’ve been thinking recently about preservation and history... We recently participated in the annual workshop of the Durham-Orange County Genealogical Society. Chatting with people researching their families back into the 1700s really underscores what a gift to the future a scrapbook can be. It renewed our enthusiasm for current projects, ranging from a scrapbook to commemorate a house that had been in a family for 50 years to a wedding anniversary album celebrating family values. If such memories aren’t written down, someone may have to spend years later trying to unravel family stories - and much would be lost forever. Modern scrapbooks truly are time capsules. We’ll be offering a free class in June on how to get started creating your own books about your family history. We’ll also give preservation and artistic tips. Hope to see ya there! — Leslie & Christina

Design Team member makes it meaningful
Terri Hayes, our very own design team member, has been scrapbooking for more than five years, but she had never entered a big scrapbooking contest until she sent an album recently to the Chatterbox Make It Meaningful competition. She decided to try since she loves Chatterbox products. “The ‘Make It Meaningful’ theme presented an opportunity for a wonderful album,” Hayes said. “The winner receives $10,000, but I didn’t really think about the money, because I never thought I had a chance of winning. I loved the idea of making an album that was meaningful - the kind that I would treasure my entire life.” Imagine her surprise recently when Melody Ross, the founder of Chatterbox, called to tell her that she was one of 25 finalists! Her work will be published this fall in Chatterbox’s new “meaningful” book. “I was shaking and I kept thanking her,” Hayes said. “I love my album so much, but I never dreamed that someone else would think it was special.” In a few days, the winner of the $10,000 will be announced. Hayes would love to win, but she is already thrilled. “The money would quickly be gone, but I will have this album forever.”

SEEKING CREATIVE LEADERS: New, growing scrapbook store seeks energized, creative, and computer savvy individuals for long-term relationship. We are searching for an assistant full-time manager, and we are always collecting applications for part-time sales associates and teachers. Applications available at store.
