									                       EARLY COLLEGE START PROGRAM

The Early College Start Program offers high school Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to
enroll in college classes at Austin Community College. Students may enroll in any course
offered at ACC, providing the ACC course prerequisites have been met. These courses may
count either as college credit only or as dual credit (high school & college credit). Dual credit is
limited to the courses approved by RRISD (see list below, or view the most current list of
approved courses at www.roundrockisd.org, click on Academics, then Course Catalog).
Courses are offered tuition-free, but students must purchase textbooks. They are allowed to
register for two classes per semester, after completion of the sophomore year.
Complete ACC course information can be found at www.austincc.edu.

7 Steps for enrolling in the Early College Start program

1) Complete the ACC Admission Application online at www.applytexas.org. Print out and complete a Residency Form
(to be handed in during ACC advising session)

2) Read through ACC 101 at www.austincc.edu/acc101 and print out the ACC 101 checklist page to bring to advising.

3) Determine your “college-readiness status”
Students are exempt from testing if they meet one of the following criteria:
 TAKS: A minimum TAKS score of 2200 on math, 2200 on ELA, AND a writing score of 3 or higher.
 ACT scores: a composite score of 23 or above AND a minimum of 19 on both the English and
mathematics subtests. (scores valid for 5 years)
 SAT scores: a total score of 1070 or above AND a minimum of 500 on both the verbal and mathematics
sections. (scores valid for 5 years)
               NEW for ’09-‘10
PSAT: 107 SI, minimum 50 on both Critical Reading and Math
PLAN: 23 composite, minimum of 19 on both English and Math
If you are not exempt you must take an ACC assessment test:
~You may test at Westwood on Monday, February 15th. Register in your grade level office at Westwood.
~The assessment test is also administered at each ACC campus. Check the assessment schedule at www.austincc.edu or
call the campus where you would like to test. Pick up a fee waiver form from your high school counselor for the $29.00
test fee, then register in person at the ACC campus.

4) Obtain an Early College Start form from your counselor and get all the necessary signatures.

5) Order a high school transcript ($3.00 from the Registrar’s Office) Allow 1 working day to process your transcript.
DO NOT have it mailed to ACC; pick up the transcript and take it to your ACC Advising appointment.

6) Attend ACC Advising session at Westwood on April 14th (Sophomores) or April 15th (Juniors), or make an
appointment for advising at any ACC campus.
Paperwork required for ACC Advising Session:
                        ● ACC Residency Form
                        ● Early College Start (dual credit) form with all required signatures
                        ● Official High School Transcript
                        ● Proof of Orientation (ACC 101 checklist)
                        ● Test scores: ASSET, THEA, TAKS, SAT or ACT score results
7) Register for classes via telephone registration, using the online registration worksheet. Summer registration is in early
May; fall registration is in mid-July; spring registration is in late fall. PLEASE NOTE: The ACC counselor does not
register you for your classes. All students must register for ACC classes by telephone. You must carefully follow the
instructions on the telephone worksheet (available on the web, or in the ACC printed course schedule). When calling, do
not hang up before the ACC registration system confirms your registration.
