Instructions

This spreadsheet finds the decimal expansion of a
fraction of your choosing, to as many decimal
places as desired. The initial fraction is shown in
blue above, and can be changed by highlighting
either numerator or denominator and replacing
them with whole number alternatives.

There ought to be enough decimal places shown to
detect any patterns (eg for recurring decimals).
If you want still more, highlight the formulas in
cells CZ4-CZ6 and select cells to the right. Then
Under the EDIT menu, select FILL > RIGHT.

To see how the spreadsheet works, study the
formulas carefully; you might be able to see that
the long division algorithm is being used. The small
numbers under the decimal expansion show the
successive numbers being divided by the
denominator each time.
