							ON –TO- NIGERIA FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE WHAT IT IS: A friendship visit by Rotarians from the Upper Midwest, USA, Zones 27-28 to the four Rotary Districts in Nigeria in furtherance of a long term goal: To create an economically and environmentally sustainable model for multi-district, holistic assistance to a well defined region of the world that would include the following basic components: safe water, medical service, education for all though grade six, food aid at school, low income housing, micro business assistance and higher education options. PURPOSE of the trip:  To create connection between emerging leaders of Rotary Zones 27 and 28 which include the Upper Midwest, USA with credible, trustworthy, insightful, creative and effective leaders in Nigeria  To identify areas which may serve as pilot sites for multi-district, holistic water, sanitation, educational and medical projects as a test for a larger model project.  To gain international experience and exposure so participants can speak credibly and with understanding of the complex needs of Nigeria in order to gain support in their District and Zone for large on-going projects.  To increase understanding among the participants of Rotary humanitarian grant programs which can be used to implement pilot and large scale development projects SIZE OF DELEGATION: 10 – 20 Rotarians TIME OF VISIT: November, 2006. Preferably early in November before the Thanksgiving holidays in the US. ++ rates are exclusive of 10% service charge and 5% VAT Lagos Sheraton Hotel is the closest to the Airport. Abuja has a lot of good Hotels. Rates for other Cities are either same or less. Cost for 4 night stay in Hotel in Lagos and other Cities @ $305++ will not exceed $1400

Connecting flights to Chicago are extra. Travel will be arranged through one travel agent. Visitor visas will be approximately $50 and handled through the travel agent. LOCAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEES Ike Ugwu of Lagos, Nigeria District 9110 has developed a committee of 4 District Rotarians to plan and co-ordinate the visit. He will also solicit the help and assistance of the 4 District Governors and will enlist the help of at least 2 Rotarians, members of Rotary Clubs in each of the Cities to be visited. Tom Thorfinnson, Zone 27 Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator from Eden Prairie, MN and Mary Kessens, DGN District 6250 and former GSE Leader to Nigeria District 9110, with the assistance of other local Rotarians, will coordinate this trip from the US.
