Your Brother Will Rise Again
Jesus reveals here yet another aspect of being God the Creator and the Giver of Life. Jesus says to
them that He is the resurrection and the life. He goes on that he who believes in Him shall live even
though he dies and those who live will never die. When Martha said she believed what He said He
called Lazarus, who had been dead four days, forth. Lazarus came forth in fullness of life.
The eyes of the witness again saw that Jesus was in fact God.
John 11:23-26 23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though
he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" NIV
John 11:27 27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to
come into the world." NIV
John 11:38-40 38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid
across the entrance. 39 "Take away the stone," he said.
"But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been
there four days."
40 Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" NIV
John 11:41-44 41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you
that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people
standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."
43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" 44 The dead man came
out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. NIV
Today there have been reports in third world countries of the dead being raised. An everyday
application gives us quickening to bodies that have been operated on, are ill, etc. Often, because we
believe, we heal much more rapidly than normal from ordinary medical treatment. In nations where
there is very little medicine to provide care, we find tumors shrinking to nothing to bring people to
Jesus. God gave us the sophisticated medicine we have in this country; however, we must rely on Him
for it to be used properly in our situation.
Not long ago I had a 51 lb pelvic mass removed. My body was week and emaciated. I had to trust
God to strengthen me and prepare the mass so that the surgery would be smooth and I would survive.
The mass was cystic at the time of the surgery, but its very thin wall could have ruptured at any time
and didn't. Without His divine hand and without using the physician He had chosen, I would not have
