In School this week………………
Year Six: Year 6 have had another busy week. We have really been cracking on with learning our songs for the end of term production. We have quite a few talented people in our class!! Staff from St. Mary’s joined us on both Thursday and Friday to answer questions about our move to year 7 in September. We had a fantastic day today really how to work as a team as we played a variety of PE games and activities. Mr Garden & Mrs Pratt Year Five: We were visited this week by a speaker from the British Heart Foundation. By the end of the session we were all fully aware how important it is to look after one’s heart. Three mean methods were explained: eating a balanced diet, taking regular exercis e and never taking up smoking. Mrs Patterson, Mrs Jamieson & Mrs Condliffe Year Four: Being Sun Protection Week, Year 4 discussed ways we can keep healthy in the sun and looked at some different activities in the ICT suite. On Thursday 19 th June (next week), Year 4 will be visiting the new Sainsbury’s site in Otley as part of our Geography topic. Half the class will go in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. If there are any parents who can help in either session, please let us know. Many Thanks. On the day, all of the children will need to wear sturdy footwear and will need to bring a coat with them. Mrs Harvey, Mrs Bates, Miss Mallott & Mrs Cheetham Year Three: Though it is lovely to welcome the warmer weather, climate change now means we all need to be aware of the damage the sun can do. So Year 3 have been considering ways we can maintain our healthy glow and protect ourselves from the sun. Do think carefully about skincare and we in Year 3 shall encourage and remind everyone to do as other countries who are used to a burning sun, have known for centuries…… cover up and ‘Wrap, Splat, Hat’! Mrs Heatley & Mrs Shaw Year Two: At the time of going to print we will be enjoying our school trip! Watch out next week for details of how much fun we’ve had! Mrs Mulholland & Mrs Skeoch Year One: This week we have been learning about staying safe in the sun and thinking about the damage of some household substances and cigarettes. We invited a special visitor ‘Nothing’ to school and made him feel very ‘smiley inside’ with our offers to share, play and talk to him. Ms Newsome, Mrs Dykes & Mrs Boyce Reception: The children have been learning to ‘Wrap, Splat, Hat’ for the sunny weather. They have brought home ‘Passports to the Sun’ to finish and keep. We hoe it will be a reminder to take care in the sun. Thank you. Mrs Brook & Miss Procter
Year One Multi Skills Festival Well Done to Jacob, Theo, Chloe, Stephen, Dylan, Ruari, Oliver, Sam, Jamie and Cameron for taking part in the Multi Skills Fe stival at St Mary’s Menston on Wednesday. Everybody worked hard despite the rain and were all awarded Hot Shot awards. Thanks to Isla and Niamh for sharing the umbrella with Ms Newsome!

FOOTBALL LEAGUE UPDATE On Wednesday our football team played in the quarter final match against Tranmere Park. Sadly, we lost in a very close match. The final score was 3-2 but all the team played with skill, determination and didn’t deserve to lose! The team was captained by Joshua Maguire who led by example. Our goals were scored by Kieran Adams. The other players were: Luke Fleming, James Gaskin, Oscar Turnball, Myles Hanlon, Jacob Noble, Oliver Hourigan, Jake Tyrie, Darragh Kelly, Luca Rizzello and Sam Kellett. Well Done boys; you did us proud! Thank you to all the parents for their support. Mrs Harvey

40th Anniversary The school, on its present site, will be celebrating its anniversary on 6th October 2009. The governors and staff feel that people would enjoy meeting together in celebration. It has been suggested that we hold a dinner dance or similar for parents, ex-pupils, staff and parishioners. There will also be plans made for a separate celebration for the children in school. At this stage we are seeking support for the planning of such an event and would welcome any parents who feel they could join a working party.
