Known for her dramatic style, Karen performs regularly with two professional orchestras, Symphony Nova Scotia in Halifax and Symphony By the Sea in Salem, Massachusetts. Her performances with Symphony Nova Scotia have been broadcast several times on CBC radio and the Symphony's recording of the "McKinnon's Brook Suite" won the ECMA's "Best Classical Recording of the Year" award in 2002. A specialist in music for the theater, Karen has played for multiple Broadway shows at the Wang Theater in Boston, various operas, ballets, and has performed with the Boston Ballet Orchestra numerous times over several seasons. She performed onstage with rapper Kan Ye West when he opened for the Rolling Stones' "Big Bang" tour in Halifax in 2006. For the opening of the new Bella Rosa Performing Arts Theater in Halifax in 2007, Karen was chosen as the soloist. Karen Rokos began her harp studies in her native city of San Diego, California. After only two years of study, she won the Harp chair with the internationally acclaimed San Diego Youth Symphony. She continued her studies in college with Marjorie Call at the University of Redlands where she was awarded membership in Pi Kappa Lambda, a music scholarship society. Karen completed her formative studies with internationally renowned harpist Susann McDonald at Indiana University, earning her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Harp Performance and graduating with distinction. She has given numerous solo and ensemble concerts each year, and continues to be a sought-after performer and teacher in the eastern United States and Atlantic Canada. Along with Symphony Nova Scotia Principal flutist Patricia Creighton, Karen has recently formed Nova Scotia's first flute and harp duo, Nova Brilliante. The duo's debut CD, "Melodies of Love, Volume I" was nominated as "Best Classical CD of the Year" for 2008 by the East Coast Music Association. Ms. Rokos is the founder of The Harp Connection, a full-service harp studio in Salem, offering lessons, sales of harps and harp maintenance and repair. She is a Certified Harp Technician with Lyon & Healy, Inc. and Salvi Harps, one of only a dozen in all of North America.

KAREN ROKOS Harpist Karen Rokos began her harp studies in her native city of San Diego, California. Karen completed her formative studies with internationally renown harpist Susann McDonald at Indiana University, where she finished her Bachelor's Degree and earned a Master's Degree, both in Harp Performance. She graduated with distinction from Indiana University in 1986. Ms. Rokos moved to New England after her college years, and embarked on a very successful career as a freelance harpist. She has given numerous solo and ensemble concerts each year in New England and Canada, specializing in 20th century music, opera and ballet. Karen now performs regularly with Symphony Nova Scotia, the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, Symphony By the Sea and is substitute harpist for the Boston Ballet Orchestra.
