nights of the year for Jazz constituents, singer/songwriter/musician, Dolores "DeeJazz" Jackson accepted the
inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at the Black Women In Jazz Awards. The May 2, event was held in
Atlanta and presented by WMPR Radio 90.1 FM, and Brown J. Realty, LLC. The ceremony also featured a
special performance by DeeJazz. The program was taped live for a televised broadcast on September 1,
2014.


The Detroit, Michigan native grew up during the Motown era. She has been using her writing and singing
talents for four decades. The Lifetime Achievement award is given to an artist in recognition of an exceptional
and enduring musical career, and notable accomplishments made relevant through stellar, artistic,
community, and personal contributions.


“Were it not for everyone who has loved and supported me and my music all these years, this would not have
happened. I share this award with you,” said a excited and teary-eyed, DeeJazz. “I congratulate all the gifted
women who were recognized at this inspiring and life changing event!”


Two of her musical scores aired nationwide on the ABC-TV documentary, "Heroes: A Triumph of Spirit".
Selected songs from her first two albums, "A Musical Messenger" and “Music of Life”, were adapted into a
stage production which DeeJazz created and produced.

After hearing "A Musical Messenger", Dr. Dr. Maya Angelou invited DeeJazz to come to New York where she
sang for Dr. Angelou at Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar. The artist has also performed for the United States
Military and many other live audiences.


DeeJazz and her sister Hattie Mae Pembrook, co-founded the non-profit organization, The Double Dose
Sisters. The organization provides a platform for young singers to showcase their skills. They also provide
mentoring opportunities to help young men who are without fathers or positive male role models.


A passionate performer with an impressive eight-octave range, DeeJazz combines impeccable technique and
crystallized artistry, perfectly. Her performances in live concerts, and on disc, generate both public and critical
acclaim.


Dolores "DeeJazz" Jackson delights her listeners with unique, inspirational, message-rich lyrics, against the
background of a beautiful, spiritual, jazz sound. Singing 'live' at The Black Women In Jazz Awards, her voice
was as readily remarkable to the human ear as it was definitively, distinctive. She performed one of her latest
singles, "Joy Ridin' Journey". The artist was accompanied by dancers, Tschaina Taylor and Bernadine Fields.


The Magna Cum Laude graduate of University of Detroit, Mercy, delivered splendidly. She elicited awe from
the audience which included her adult children, Starr Washington and Marlon Washington, several college
alumni, family, friends, and fans.
