East Surrey College – 2 Years Full-Time

Entry requirements:
These courses are designed for those who have already achieved a degree of skill and confidence
within Art & Design and can demonstrate this through a presentation of a portfolio of work. Applicants
will be expected to hold one or more of the following qualifications. BTEC Diploma in Foundation
Studies (Art & Design) or a National Diploma in an Art & Design subject. Applicants without the above
but holding an A level in an Art & Design subject at grade C or above will also be considered.
Interested students with other forms of prior learning are encouraged to apply.

Course description:
The philosophy underpinning the HND Graphic Design/Illustration programme can best be summed up
as an opportunity to develop as a Graphic Designer or Illustrator within the context of contemporary
culture, communication and practice, both pathways are ideas led. We aim to provide you with the
critical and analytical powers and skills to adapt and respond to the fast changing world of
communication. The dynamics of the group will encourage you to acquire a range of transferable skills,
which will enable you to operate autonomously or as part of a team. We offer you the opportunity to
explore the wide range of craft areas available to you at RSADM according to your personal creative
aims.

The Second year includes self- directed work. Illustration students are encouraged to use a broad
approach to media and materials including the use of 3D and various printmaking techniques (e.g.
Etching, lino, drypoint, collograph, silk screen).

Type of assessment:
Continuous assessment (formative & summative) project based

Where can this course lead?
The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to help you to take an independent cognitive
approach to graphic design or illustration. We aim to provide you with the theoretical, analytical and
creative skills needed either for employment or for onward progression to 2nd or 3rd year degree level
study at another institution.
What will it cost?
£4,500.00 (applicable to learners over 19)
Concessionary fee: N/A
There are additional fees -
 You will have to buy a small selection of books -project dependant.
 Art & design equipment as needed
 Computer printouts, disks, CDs etc. as needed
 Costing varies according to individual’s needs
 Entrance to exhibitions. Educational trips both abroad and in the UK.
