 Greetings From Our Regional Director
                    Dear Western Region Members!
I am excited to begin my term as Regional Director. I am also proud to be working with such a
great group of Art Teachers. Our Board welcomes Sarajane Steinecker as our Regional Director
Elect, Joan Lucas as our Secretary, and Judith Charves as our Workshop Chair. I wish to thank
my entire Board in advance as we meet and plan for another term. We have some exciting ideas
in the works. In December, Nancy Vogel was gracious enough to host our annual Nibble and
Network Party in her new home. It was a great way to begin the holiday season. Art Teachers
Rebecca Molnar create amazing food. It is also a convenient way to drop off the YAM and YPAE artwork. This
is just a sample of Art Teachers making a difference with our youth. As I mentioned earlier, the Western Region
is made up of an amazing group of Art Teachers demonstrating every day the importance of Art in the classroom.
If you are not yet an active member of WOAEA, please consider becoming one. You will immediately have a
sense of knowing you belong. I think back on my first years of being the only Art Teacher in the building. I
would wear brightly colored clothing or artistic jewelry and get odd looks or comments from other teachers. I
would teach a creatively messy project to see shakes of heads or hear, "You sure are brave." I remember attend-
ing my first WOAEA workshop to look up and see someone wearing the same brightly patterned silk jacket that I
owned! I noticed a little later, someone wearing the exact pair of hand painted reading glasses that I was wearing.
By the end of the workshop I was talking excitedly to my new friends about Art project ideas that I could not wait
to try in the classroom. Please come and see for yourself what I am talking about. I look forward to meeting you
at any, or better yet, all of our activities. You are always welcome.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Molnar

Celebrate Youth Art Month YPAE/YAM Exhibits
Every March, OAEA sponsors exhibitions form K-8 students through our Youth Art Month and Young Peo-
ple's Art Exhibit. These events spotlight art education in our schools. In conjunction with this program, we
publicize activities associated with the event, provide teachers with ideas for public relations and offer sug-
gestions for highlighting the accomplishments of art students.

Western Region Summer Exhibit UD ARTSTREET
The 2014 regional student art exhibition, also known as the “summer show”, is open to
ALL Western members of OAEA with students in grades K-12! That’s right: It’s not
just a K-8 show or a high school show; it’s BOTH! Though the limit is eight (8) items
per member, we will happily settle for one or two. If you submitted work to the YAM/
YPAE, you may already have work in the summer show, because anything not selected
for YAM or YPAE is automatically entered in the regional exhibition.
Art Street, UD Submissions will be accepted April 30 through May 16. Work can be dropped off WEDNES-
DAY, MAY 14, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. ONLY during the monthly regional
board meeting at Panera on Miller Lane. Other arrangements can be made by contacting Mary Baine
(mbaine@woh.rr.com) or Melissa Clark Bresemann (muckluck78@gmail.com).
Once the work has been collected, the chairs will organize it and send letters to all students and teachers with
work in the show, which will be displayed at the ArtStreet Gallery on Kiefaber Street, adjacent to the University
of Dayton. The date for hanging the show is Tuesday, June 10. (Volunteers should meet at the gallery by 9 a.m.
Please contact either Mary McGowan Baine or Melissa Clark Bresemann with any questions you may have.) The
show will be available for viewing from June 11 through July 11 during regular gallery hours, and the artists’ re-
ceptions are scheduled for Saturday, July 12.
