September 2009
Dear Parents / Carers,
HEADTEACHER’S NEWSLETTER 1 / 09 10 – Autumn TERM 1
Welcome to the new school year, and to this first newsletter of the term. I trust that
you all enjoyed your Summer Holidays and are back into the swing of things.
As usual, I am intending to send out one newsletter each term, six in total for the
year.
You can also access this newsletter online at www.ashgatecroft.derbyshire.sch.uk.
Our Website will be kept up to date as we go through the year so you may wish to
look at this on a regular basis to see what is going on at school.
SAD NEWS
I’m sorry to have to tell you that Oliver Annett, one of our pupils in Senior 6 class,
sadly died in his sleep at the end of August. Oliver had been a pupil at Ashgate Croft
since 1998 and many of our staff have worked with him over the years. Oliver
brought much happiness into our lives and touched all our hearts.
His funeral took place last week at St Thomas’ Church, Brampton on Chatsworth
Road. Thank you to parents/carers who were able to collect their child from school in
the afternoon, this helped us in making arrangements for 20 or so staff to be able to
attend. Any donations are being split between our school and Ashgate Activity Club,
which Oliver also used to attend.

PUPIL BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT POLICY
We are in the process of revising our Pupil Behaviour Support Policy and, as
such, I have included below a copy of the section which we are proposing to
put in relating to parent and carers.
Please have a look at this. We are emphasizing the importance of home and
school working together to encourage positive behaviour.
Should you have any comments on this section or any suggestions for other
things to be included in it, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank
you.
The school recognises that parents and carers play a vital role in the
promotion of pupil’s appropriate interaction in school and the importance of
positive home-school liaison encouraging opportunities to discuss pupil’s
individual needs. The school expects parents and carers to inform the school
of:
- Behavioural problems pupils experience at home;
- Any health issues or medication that may affect a pupil’s behaviour;
- Any trauma that affects a pupil’s performance or behaviour;
2
- Any external advice or support which they may seek for behavioural
difficulties.
Parents and carers are encouraged to recognise and celebrate their children’s
achievements.
