Dental Implant Specialists in Arizona Dispel Common Myths Surrounding
                  Scariest Dental Procedures, PART 4

This four-part series seeks to fully explain and dispel the common misconceptions
there are about three of the “scariest” dental treatments: tooth extractions, root
canals and dental implants.

Welcome to the final installment of this four-part article series on the three dental
procedures that have the worst and most unfair reputations for being traumatic and painful.
So far, we have spoken to an experienced dental implant specialist in Arizona about teeth
extractions and endodontic therapy (root canals). In our previous article post, the third
installment of the series, we began looking at dental implants as the third of the “terrifying
treatments.” We shall now present to fearful patients three excellent reasons why dental
implant surgery really need not be feared…

Dispelling the Myths Surrounding Dental Implants, Continued

1. Dental Implant Surgery is Performed Under Anesthesia

One of the biggest reasons patients fear dental implant surgery, if not THE biggest, is pain.
“Patients are terrified that they are going to be crippled with pain during the procedure
and not be able to do a thing about it,” says a dental implant specialist in Arizona. “This is
the most unfounded of fears because we never, ever perform an invasive procedure without
the use of anesthesia. We always make sure that the area being treated has been
completely numbed before replacing a tooth. A patient shouldn’t be able to feel any pain or
any discomfort. For more advanced and complex cases of teeth replacement, we may opt to
place the patient under a general anesthetic. This keeps them comfortable and enables us
to do a quicker and more efficient job.”

2. Conscious Sedation is Readily Available for Anxiety
“A fear of the dentist or dental treatment is really very common,” explains the dental
implants specialist in Phoenix. “For this reason, more and more dentists are undergoing
the training necessary to offer sedation as a service. Sedation involves the administration
of medications that affect the central nervous system safely and in a predictable manner.
This essentially calms a patients; making them feel completely relaxed, at ease and
somewhat detached from reality.”

The dental implants specialist in Arizona continues: “By gently sedating a patient prior to
their procedure, they don’t have to worry about experiencing the horrible physical and
psychological effects of extreme anxiety. It may sound odd, but being scared of panicking in
the dentist’s chair is almost always what brings on panic attacks! Sedation addresses these
problems in extremely nervous and anxious patients, enabling them to receive the
treatment they need to get their gorgeous smiles back.”

3. Modern Dental Implant Protocols Have Become Minimally Invasive

“Pain and anxiety control aside, the nature of the techniques used to provide patients with
new teeth have changed quite dramatically over the past few decades,” says the dental
implants specialist in Phoenix. “The kind of surgery done to place dental implants
nowadays involves minimal incisions and sutures and can be done within a single dental
appointment. This can be achieved thanks to the development of highly sophisticated
surgical guides and through the use of diagnostic 3-D X-ray imaging equipment and
computer software.”

“This diagnostic technology enables us to view a patient’s jawbone and dentition in great
detail and to plan the intricacies of their procedure before they even come in to have it
done,” explains a dental implant specialist in Arizona. “Not only do we know exactly where
we need to place the implants, but we can also do so at a much lesser risk of complications,
since 3D scans reveal the locations of all major blood vessels and nerves.”

4. A Final Note...

For all the reasons and explanations provided in this four-part article series, Arizona
residents really don’t need to be afraid of the dentist anymore. Never hesitate to
communicate your fears and concerns with your dentist and if he or she is anything but
kind, professional and compassionate, you have the power to seek your dental services
elsewhere. Remember that.
