Distinct from government owned and managed housing : - able to provide responsive local solutions - able to raise finance and partner with private developers which government can’t do Over 1000 providers nationally 275 organisations manage more than 50 properties Some organisations manage over 2500 properties Industry is set to grow dramatically

Drivers for industry growth
Commonwealth government is increasing its investment in social housing eg. National rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) aims to increase supply of community managed properties by 50,000 properties by 2012 Nation building and economic stimulus package aims to fund an additional 20,000 new properties nationally by 2012 Focus on solutions to homelessness has funded housing options for increased services to address homelessness

Community housing workforce
Workforce profile covers organisations who employ full time housing management staff Workforce = approximately 882 nationally Projected workforce growth – projections for NSW indicate a 75% increase by 2011 ie. additional 235 workers Organisations are growing - workers require a new skills and knowledge to operate in a changing environment Increase size in organisations - more middle managers , either transitioning from direct service delivery, or entering the industry

The e-learning solution
This project will : •develop a model for e-elearning for a not for profit, community sector •develop housing specific training for middle managers in the workplace •develop e-learning for units from the Diploma in Social Housing, using existing resources where possible •enable the industry to engage with and experience sector specific elearning implementation for the first time •identify and use low cost accessible technology solutions •build momentum for long term integration of e-learning nationally for the community housing industry
