Press Release
NEW CEO AT THE SINGAPORE INDIAN DEVELOPMENT
ASSOCIATION (SINDA)
1. A new Chief Executive Officer will take over the helm of the Singapore Indian
Development Association (SINDA) in December 2009. The current CEO, Mr S
Manogaran, a former Cluster Superintendent, will complete his secondment to
SINDA on 13 December and will return to the Ministry of Education to assume a
senior appointment.
2. The current Chief Operating Officer, Mr T Raja Segar will take over from Mr S
Manogaran as the CEO of SINDA from 14 December 2009. Mr T Raja Segar has
been with SINDA since June 2008. Mr T Raja Segar, a trained teacher, has
lectured at government schools, polytechnic and private institutions. He has
served in management roles at Mediacorp, the Institute of Technical Education
and the Ministry of Defence.
3. Dr Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and President of
SINDA commented on the change of leadership and contributions made by Mr S
Manogaran:
“Mr S Manogaran has done an outstanding job at SINDA and has provided
inspiring leadership to the organisation. During Mr Manogaran’s tenure as CEO,
SINDA strengthened its brand presence in the community. By placing students
and families at the centre of all its actions, SINDA succeeded in helping
thousands take advantage of its programmes and national assistance schemes.
During this same period, Mr Manogaran streamlined the administrative
processes at SINDA and launched several new programmes. One of the
programmes launched was the 20-week reading initiative called Programme
RISE (Reading in Sync with Experience), which was introduced at SINDA’s
STEP and TEACH learning centres to strengthen the reading skills of Primary 1
to 3 pupils.
He also worked closely with community organisations like the People’s
Association’s Narpani Pearavai and the Singapore Indian Education Trust
(SIET). He introduced the Distinguished Speaker Series to motivate young
Indians and created a Volunteer Development Council to encourage and engage
volunteers.
I wish Mr Manogaran the very best in his new posting at MOE. Mr T Raja Segar,
the COO of SINDA will take over as the next CEO. SINDA will continue with its
focus on education with the goal of having a graduate (University, Polytechnic or
ITE) in every Indian family.”
