“The winter months can be somewhat of a sleeper market,” Dowd says. “Competition is far lower, and the
buyers out there this time of the year are more targeted. And since people often begin shopping on the web

As 2014 begins, Dowd is more optimistic than he has been in several years.
“Inventories are still very low, prices continue to be on the upswing, and interest rates remain at historic lows.
This all points to a good year in 2014 for home sellers,” Dowd continues. “But even though conditions are
more favorable for sellers, proper preparation is still important to capitalize on the strong market.”
For those looking to get in on the early Spring rush, Dowd says the time to prepare is now.
“If you want to have your home properly positioned for the early Spring market, it is important to have your
home listed by the end of January or early February at the latest. But not all homes are in top selling
condition. This is why it’s important to talk with a realtor by mid-January, because there may be some repairs
needed, de-cluttering, and other things necessary to make your home stand out from the crowd. This type of
preparation may require a good 2-4 weeks.”
