Post:                     Freedom of Information Compliance Officer

Contract:                 Part Time, Fixed Term for 12 months initially

Salary:                   £27,000 - £30,000 (pro rata for part time working)

Responsible to:           Head of Information Services

Summary of Role:
Reporting to the Head of Information Services, you will implement procedures, policies and practices
to underpin Freedom of Information (FoI) legislation. Acting as a key point of contact within LSTM,
you will provide guidance and advice on all aspects of the FoI as well as co-ordinating responses to
requestors in respect of the FoI Act.

This post will necessitate that the post holder understands, appreciates, communicates and manages
the implementation of all relevant and mandatory FoI duties throughout the organisation.

Role & Responsibilities

         Carry out an information audit across the organisation

         Liaise with academic and support departments across LSTM to ensure that retention
          schedules are created and fully embedded in administrative processes

         Develop a publication scheme to meet the relevant legislation requirements of the FoI Act
          and Information Commissioner’s Office to ensure that LSTM complies with legislation in a
          timely and adequate manner

         Provide statistical information about FoI to management as requested

         Plan, develop and implement an FoI awareness programme including providing training and
          written procedures that are widely disseminated and available to staff

         Write policies around Freedom of Information practices and related information governance
          issues

         Establish corporate processes and a consistent organisation wide approach for handling FoI
          queries

         Provide a professional approach to FoI processes which will be effective, efficient and
          responsive to the needs of the business and requestors
      Liaise with other employees responsible for information handling e.g. HR, Finance, Academic
       Registry

      Assist the Head of Information Services in managing information governance risks via the
       LSTM Governance Oversight Committee

      Manage physical records either within the premises or via an external storage company

      Manage contracts with external storage companies

      Liaise with external legal advice providers

      Budget management

      Adhere to LSTM policies including Equality and Diversity; Health & Safety; Freedom of
       Information; Data Protection and Information Security

      Ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during
       the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the
       provisions of the Data Protection Act and its amendments
