Cost: $1,800 per person double occupancy ($1800 pp triple occupancy, $2500 pp single occupancy) plus international airfare firstname.lastname@example.org – decide whether you want economy, premium economy or business class seats! Air tickets (economy) for fall range from $1100-$1500 depending on airline/departure date.
Transportation to/from O’Hare Airport: $35.00 per person or you can go to the airport on your own. Meals: Western & Chinese buffet breakfast daily. Included: 11 Breakfasts, 7 Lunches, 1 Special Lunch, 6 Dinners, 3 Special Dinners = 28 meals included! Additional meals on your own will cost on average $40 per person total. Hotels: Excellent 4-star hotels with indoor swimming pools, spa and salon services, western & Chinese dining rooms. Conveniently located in center city so you can go out and explore, do morning exercises with the local people or wonder through lively neighborhoods in the evening. Optional activities listed on itinerary (cost is $15-20 per person) Also included: all tips and gratuities (including guides, drivers and luggage handlers), licensed bilingual escorts from OCDF China Tours, local/domestic transportation, domestic travel insurance, luggage tags, travel passport holder, welcome bag with maps and language cards, name tag with 24/7 on-call emergency assistance. All OCDF China Tours staff are Red Cross First Aid and CPR trained/certified in addition to training for food allergy emergencies (such as use of an Epipen). There are no other travel providers in China with staff as extensively prepared to work with a wide age-range of travelers and their needs. Not included: US passport (must be valid for 6 months after the date of travel), Chinese Visa (we will assist you with your visa application if you would like - $20 per person courier fee plus visa fees), international airfare available through www.travnet.net by contacting Marta.email@example.com (an Illinois-based provider), and trip cancellation/travel medical insurance (optional). Medical: Consistent with recommendations by International SOS and the US Embassy in China, we suggest travelers to China had updated vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B and Tetnus (a booster if you have not had a vaccination within 10 years). No other pre-trip inoculations are necessary. For our Senior Travelers: OCDF China Tours has available for those needing assistance – wheel chairs (and helpers), walkers with seats, and canes with seats. Seniors desiring assistance during their tour should let us know so we can help you. Seniors who wish to opt out of an activity or stay on the bus with our bilingual driver are welcome to do so.
Day 1 Thursday - Depart USA from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (or other departure city) (Note: If you are flying Korean Air, you may need to depart one day earlier and may arrive home one day later) Day 2 Friday (D,L,B,D) - Arrive at Beijing International Airport and clear immigration, obtain luggage, and exit through customs. Met by OCDF at the airport for transfer to the Beijing Oriental Culture Hotel. Welcome Dinner at 6 pm. Receive welcome bag with information, maps, etc. Orientation information given to participants prior to arrival in China. Day 3 Saturday (B,L,D) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit the open-air Panjiayuan Antique Market and then on to the Temple of Heaven to view the many seniors enjoying the park (Tai Chi, Ballroom Dancing, Ribbon Dancing, Kite-flying, and more). Visit the main temple where the Emperor would come to pray for good harvests. Lunch at the Old Beijing Noodle Shop where you will see traditional Beijing-style décor and lunch foods. Mid-afternoon visit the grandeur of the Forbidden City, home to Emperors for 600 years, followed by a casual and local-style Peking Duck dinner. Day 4 Sunday (B,D) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning drive to the 2008 Olympic Green for photos and then travel to Great Wall at Badaling. Climb the Great Wall or view it from the base while enjoying a coffee shop or shopping. Lunch on your own. Afternoon tour the Summer Palace with a boat ride on Kunming Lake. Return to the city for Chinese restaurant dinner. Evening: Peking Acrobats.
Day 5 Monday - (B,L) Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning to Beijing Huiling group home for special needs adults to enjoy music and crafts or spend the morning “on your own” meeting up with the group for lunch. Lunch at Chinese restaurant. Afternoon Hutong Tour with visit to local family and visit an elementary school. Fly kites in Tiananmen Square or walk throughout the square to see the monuments. Dinner on your own near Tiananmen Square. Evening: Overnight Train to Xian (the all soft-sleeper express train, non-smoking, each compartment locks, western toilets in each train car, large luggage is checked through to Xian and handled by a luggage service for your convenience). Day 6 Tuesday (B,L) - Arrive Xian and transfer to the Aurun International Hotel. Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit the Muslim Mosque and Market followed by a lunch of Xian Jiaozi dumplings. Afternoon visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and have a hands-on farmer painting lesson. Dinner on your own and evening free time to explore the area, enjoy the indoor swimming pool, or experience a Chinese massage. Day 7 Wednesday (B,L,D) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit the Jade Carving demonstration then on to the museum of the Qin Emperor’s Terra Cotta Army including Imax movie and visit the unearthed warriors. Buffet lunch included at the museum. Return to Xian for some free time at the hotel. Dinner: Tang Dynasty Dinner Show including traditional musical instruments and dance. Day 8 Thursday (B,L,D) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning fly from Xian to Chengdu and transfer to the Dynasty Hotel with lunch included at a local restaurant. Afternoon visit to the Silk Embroidery Weaving Museum followed by a relaxing afternoon at the People’s Park with Tea House and Garden. Dinner included at the Sichuan Traditional Chinese Medicine University Restaurant. Optional: Sichuan-style Foot Massage ($15) or Sichuan Variety Show including Changing Masks ($20) Day 9 Friday (B,L,D) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning travel to the Chengdu Panda Research Center. Visit the Giant Pandas, the Research and Breeding Center. Option to HUG* a real panda today!! (cost is dependent on size of panda you wish to hug and can range from $50-100 donation to the research center) Afternoon free time to explore Chengdu and go shopping! Visit the Chengdu Antique Market perhaps? Buy some silk brocade? Explore the computer district? Lunch and Dinner included at Chinese restaurants. Day 10 Saturday (B) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning fly from Chengdu to Beijing - Arrive in Beijing and transfer to the Oriental Culture Hotel with lunch on your own. Afternoon free time to explore the Hong Qiao Market (Pearl and Clothing Market) or the Silk Alley or other amazing shopping options. Or, visit the wonderful new Capital Museum or the National Art Gallery.
Dinner on your own. Day 11 Sunday (B, D, L, B) - Western & Chinese buffet breakfast at the hotel. Lunch on your own. Transfer to airport for flight to USA. Arrive in USA.
