PERC Approves Campaign to Educate Government Decision-Makers on Propane The Propane Education & Research Council met via an hour-long conference call on February 7 and approved a strategic campaign to help raise awareness among Washington, D.C., decision-makers about propane as a “green” energy source, as well as other important industry issues. The campaign is part of the Capital Action Program, a joint communications effort with the National Propane Gas Association, and includes the annual Propane Days events. The Council also approved funding requests to continue the Consumer Education Partnership with States Program and API Survey, as well as a new project to further analyze the use of propane-powered flaming equipment on the farm. Next week's PERC Update will include more details on the meeting. The Council will meet next on March 28 in Atlanta, GA. New Brochures Can Help Customers During Tornadoes, Power Outages, and Floods This week the country saw severe tornadoes across the south, flooding in the Midwest, and continued winter storms in many parts of the country. As a reminder, important natural disaster brochures are now available to support state associations and the propane industry. These nine brochures cover specific instructions when faced with wildfires, tornadoes, thunderstorms, winter storms, hurricanes, power outages, extreme heat, earthquakes, and floods. By taking a few simple propanerelated safety precautions, families can reduce the potential for property loss, personal injury, and even death. The brochures are now available online at PropaneSafety.com (click here) and UsePropane.com (click here). The brochures are also available for purchase through the Propane Resource Catalog ($11.95/50 pack) by calling (866) 905-1075 or visiting www.propanecatalog.com. Feel free to contact PERC if you need assistance in any of these areas by calling (202) 452-8975. (return to top) New CETP Textbooks Are Available for Pre-Order PERC is now taking pre-orders for three completely updated Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) textbooks: Basic Principles & Practices, Propane Delivery Operations & Cylinder Delivery, and Bobtail Delivery Operations. The new textbooks have been updated according to the 2008 edition of NFPA 58 and the 2006 edition of NFPA 54. They are printed in color and include state-of-the-art graphics. These courses have also been streamlined and include separate glossary and resource sections, which all provide an enhanced classroom learning experience for students. Please note that the texts for Propane Delivery Operations and Cylinder Delivery have been bundled into a single book. This combination provides greater flexibility in classroom instruction and reduces costs. The book provides information on which

modules do not need to be taught to those students who seek instruction and certification only in Bobtail Delivery, and not in Cylinder Delivery. All three textbooks can be pre-ordered through the Propane Resource Catalog at (866)-905-1075, or www.propanecatalog.com. Orders will ship the week of March 3.    Basic Principles & Practices of Propane (item #009200/$26 each) Propane Delivery Operations and Cylinder Delivery (item #009205/$26 each) Bobtail Delivery Operations (item #009210/$26 each)

The Propane Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions: A Comparative Analysis Fact Sheet summarizes a recent PERC study that found using propane in certain applications produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) than many other fuels, making it an attractive option to help cut carbon emissions. The fact sheet, as well as the entire study, is part of the "Green Building Kit" on the MaRC, which contains materials that you can download and use to educate builders and homeowners about the energy-efficient benefits of propane. Click here to view the fact sheet or logon to the MaRC. For assistance, contact PERC’s Kelly Harris at (202) 452-8975 or kelly.harris@propanecouncil.org. (return to top)

Propane Industry Prepares for 2008 International Builders’ Show Next Week This year the propane industry is working even closer with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to promote propane at the International Builders’ Show (IBS), which will be held in Orlando, FL, February 13-16. To motivate builders to visit the industry's booth, a coupon has been placed in each registration packet promoting the chance to win a new propane-powered Roush F-150 pickup truck filled with propane appliances, including a tankless water heater, fireplace, standby generator, and grill. The winner will be announced at the PROPANE Exceptional Energy® Builder Award ceremony on Friday, February 15 at 3:30 p.m. The truck and appliances will be on display in Show Village outside the convention center. Propane is also a part of NAHB’s show home, The New American Home, which features several propane appliances and an underground tank. Builders can get additional information on propane when they visit the home, which is the first NAHB “green-certified” home. The benefits of green building with propane will also be promoted to builders and media at the show. Spread the word to your local builders to visit the propane industry exhibit at American Natural Gas and Propane Industries Exhibit W1983.
