New Sponsors Cash up the Oceanseries Ski races
Prizes and cash of more than $50,000 will be up for grabs thanks to Bing Lee and LG, two
new sponsors of the upcoming Oceanseries ski races being hosted by Surf Life Saving
Sydney Northern Beaches.
This new sponsorship in association with Epic Kayaks, and the addition of one more
event at Bondi Beach, now makes this year’s event the country’s biggest ski series on
the surf life saving calendar.
The Oceanseries, which last year became part of the world circuit, kicks off at Dee Why
Beach this month and culminates with the gruelling 20 Beaches Ocean Classic in
December. Last year this race attracted Australia’s best paddlers including Tim Jacobs
David Kissane, Jeremy Cotter, Murray Stewart and Caine Eckstein, as well as six of the
top ten paddlers from the 2008 Dubai Shamaal, which is the biggest and richest ocean
ski race in the world.
The Bondi to Watson’s Bay Ocean race is the newest addition to the series and should
provide a unique experience for all competitors as it starts at Bondi Beach, heads north
then turns into Sydney Harbour going around the lighthouse and into Watson’s Bay.
Another significant initiative this year will be the introduction of the Blast Paddlers’ state
of the art timing system. This will be used at all races and will electronically record
competitor’s times and then instantly email them their results.
Prizes for this year’s series include an LG 622 $3300 Litre Stainless Steel French Door Fridge
which will be a random draw for any competitor who buys a series pass. A 106cm HD
plasma TV will also be given away after the last race of the series and there Portable
DVD players as lucky door prizes at every event. There are many more LG products to
be given away as series prizes plus six trips to the Molokai ski race in Hawaii courtesy of
Lifestyle Financial Services, $1000 vouchers from Epic Kayaks, paddles, covers and ski
gear thanks to Bennett Surf Boards and sporting magazines from Ultrafit will also all be
up for grabs.
The Oceanseries has the only World Cup Event on the East Coast of Australia and last
year nearly 1000 paddlers took part. This year’s series will undoubtedly increase the
status of the sport and encourage increased participation at all levels.
The event is open to specification SLSA surf skis and ocean racing skis and registration
can now be done on the website www.oceanseries.com.au
