Dear Bride and Groom We are pleased that you are considering Second Congregational Church, United Church of Christ of New London for your wedding. This is an important day in your life – a day that you will treasure for your entire life. Second Congregational Church has a long and proud history here in the community of New London. In order for your day to go smoothly, there is some information that you should have. Arrangements regarding your wedding service must be made with the Pastor of the church and the organist. The Pastor of the church will be the person doing the counseling prior to your wedding and will perform the ceremony. If our Pastor is not available, we will locate an ordained UCC minister. Only UCC clergy or clergy whose denomination we are in communion with are permitted to perform weddings at Second Congregational Church. It is important that you set the date and time of the wedding (and rehearsal, if required) far in advance. Our church is blessed to have Allyn Donath, AGO as our organist. Allyn is trained on our Austin Organ and also on the Harp. She is an excellent addition to your special day. She may be reached at www.mysticharpist.com

Premarital Interviews Both the bride and the groom will be expected to meet with me for three premarital interviews prior to the wedding. The best time to call me to arrange the first appointment is Tuesday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the church office. Please fill out the “Wedding Information” sheet and mail it with your deposit. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or the Administrative Assistant at the church office,(442-5749) or email us at 2cong-nl@sbcglobal.net. Additional information about the wedding service is included in the following pages. We look forward to hearing back from you regarding being part of your special day. Grace and Peace,

Rev. Edward F. Cornell
***PLEASE NOTE:

Information on Guidelines, fees, and the Wedding Information Form for you to fill out follows in the next pages. Dates cannot be confirmed before $100 nonrefundable deposit has been sent to the church office, and the bride and groom discuss your wedding plans with the minister.

SECOND CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH GUIDELINES

The Wedding Service
You may, if you wish, plan your own service in consultation with the minister. You are encouraged to at least write your own vows, although it is not required. It will, however, make your service more personal and unlike any other. Rev. Cornell will assist you in planning your service.

Rehearsal
Rehearsals are to be arranged with the minister. It is important that all principals in the wedding party be present at the rehearsal. It is desired that your photographer or videographer be present. There are restrictions on what they can do and it is best if they know ahead of time.

The Marriage License
Apply for a marriage license at Town Hall in New London, located on State Street. Once the license is issued, it is good for sixty-five days. The wedding license must be with the officiating Pastor during the week of the rehearsal. Please note: The license must be issued in the town in which the wedding is to be performed.

Flowers
Flowers are at your discretion. We do ask that if any flowers or bows are to be attached to the pews, that you do not use scotch tape. Please use floral tape or masking tape for this. Boston Ferns are attractive in our sanctuary. If using a runner for the center aisle, the aisle is 75 feet long.

Music
Arrangements for music must be made directly with the organist (contact information below). The Church Organist is always given the privilege of first refusal. The organist will be happy to discuss and demonstrate appropriate pieces written for church weddings. If you wish secular music, it must meet the approval of the minister. If the organist must purchase the sheet music for your wedding, it is expected that you will pay for it. If you wish to have a soloist, please make arrangements with the organist and this will naturally affect the organist fee. Use of recorded music is not consistent with the guidelines for use of the sanctuary at Second Congregational Church.
