The pigment content is approx. 50 %. Some of the data below pertain to the pigment. According to the data available, the pigment does not show acute toxic effects. Irritation to skin and mucous membranes have not been reported. Feeding studies on rats to determine the chronic toxicity revealed no toxicological findings whatsoever. Because of its inert, practically insoluble character, Eupolen® PE Blue 69-1501 does not represent any hazard for the environment. It can be mechanically removed from effluents. Incineration is the recommended form of disposal. During incineration, small proportions of hydrogen chloride may be emitted, which must be removed from the flue gas by appropriate means. Analyses of representative standard samples have shown that the sum of the total content of these elements is less than 100 mg/kg and thus below the limit laid down in the EU Directive on packaging and packaging waste, 94/62/ EC, and the American CONEG model. The requirements of the EU Directives on electronic devices, 2002/95/EC, and on end-of-live vehicles, 2000/53/EC, are met. The metal contents quoted are based on the detection limit of the method of analysis used (X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy). The actual contents may be significantly lower. Halogen content Eupolen® PE Blue 69-1501 contains approx. 4.5% copper and approx. 8 % organically combined chlorine. The pigment contained in Eupolen® PE Blue 69-1501 meets the purity requirements of the following food legislations (Type 8081) (also see Heavy metal contents): Europe Germany Italy Spain France USA Resolution AP (89) I BfR Recommendation IX, 190th information of June 1, 1999 Decreto Ministeriale of March 21, 1973 Resolucion del April 11, 1982 de la Subsecretaria de Sanidad not listed in the French positive list (Brochure No. 1227) The pigment has been registered with the FDA under the Food Contact Notification (FCN) program. This registration is specific to the applicant and allows only the pigment made by BASF to be used. The application rate is limited to 1 % in terms of pigment or 2 % in terms of Eupolen® PE Blue 69-1501. The contact with food of an article colored with Eupolen® PE Blue 691501 is limited to the conditions C throug G, described in table 2, § 176.170 (c). The temperature must not exceed 70 °C (158 °F).
