There are several options available for interns to choose their accommodation in the United States and the United Kingdom. Accommodation in the United States Homestay Program Interns are strongly advised to choose homestay as their accommodations, especially to those not accustomed to living in an English speaking foreign country. Interns have to settle their accommodation charges once in a month. The most popular option is homestay, which has self-serve breakfast every day and dinner Monday through Thursday. There is a one-time service fee of $200 due before move-in. Each month of accommodation is approximately $675.00. Detailed information regarding the homestay provider is available upon request. Room Rental (with roommate) There are many advertisements of room rental available in newspapers and magazines. Usually, one sharing room rental with facilities such as bathroom, kitchen, and laundry ranges from $450 to $1000 per month. In addition, common living areas such as the living room and dining room are available for use. The rental fee may or may not include utilities such as electric, phones, etc. All arrangements are made through agreement with the owner. Of course, you may make your own apartment arrangements before arrival. Apartment or House Rental A single-bedroom apartment or townhouse may be rented from $900 to $2,000 per month without including furniture. Please note that apartments rental for less than $900 are available but these apartments are often located far from the metro stations. Usually, this price does NOT include utilities. It is possible to rent this space for yourself or to share it with others. In normal practice, the minimum rental period lasts for one year. However, it is possible to rent for a

Please note that interns are required to provide financial records in sterling to rent flats/houses, cars, etc. This implies that interns are required to present bank and credit card statements to owners of flat/house as supporting documents. Homestay Programme Interns are strongly advised to choose homestay as their accommodations, especially to those not accustomed to living in an English speaking foreign country. For the sake of good record, interns must keep a personal record of their payments for they are required to pay the homestay fee directly to their agents. Homestay accommodation will cost interns between ￡90 and ￡120 per week. Homestay is a kind of half-board accommodation, which includes breakfast and dinner every day. Lunch is not provided on any day although interns should be able to prepare their own lunch at the Host Family home.
Homestay regulations and guidelines for Interns Interns must notify the host in writing (via fax or letter) of all cancellations or changes to accommodation arrangements after the start and leave dates have been agreed upon. As a usual practice, interns MUST notify the host at least 4 weeks before leaving the homestay. Failure to submit the required notification will result in a penalty charge commensurate with the notification delay. Flat share (with roommate) There are many rental advertisements of sharing room in houses or sharing flats available in newspapers and magazines. Usually, one sharing room rental with facilities such as bathroom, kitchen, living room, and laundry ranges from ￡300 to ￡400 per month. However, it is reminded that interns will also have to share payment of the gas, electricity, telephones, food, etc. Flat or House Rental A studio (one-room living space without separate bedroom) will cost the intern about ￡490 per month. A one-bed room flat is about ￡600 to ￡800 per month whereas two-bed room flat or house are about ￡850-￡1,000 per month. Please note that this price does NOT include utilities (gas, electricity, etc.) and the intern should be very careful about what his/her commitments are before signing a lease. In normal practice, the minimum rental period lasts for six months. The intern must make sure that he/she fully understands all terms and conditions of the lease/agreement before signing.
