Press release 17 April 2008
Worldwide licensing agreement for textiles with Marvel Entertainment, Inc.
The Carrefour Group has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for the use of its Hulk, Spiderman and Iron Man character franchises. This new agreement reaffirms the Carrefour Group's commitment to its new textile strategy launched in 2003. Spiderman, Hulk and Iron Man soon to be found at Carrefour Group hypermarkets and supermarkets
The Carrefour Group has signed an agreement with Marvel Entertainment, Inc. as a part of its ongoing licensed textile strategy launched in 2003 with a Disney license. The two‐year worldwide agreement will allow the Group to stock the shelves of its hypermarkets and supermarkets 1 with around 50 textile products (apparel, backpacks and school supplies) featuring Hulk, Spiderman and Iron Man, three of the most popular superheroes among boys all over the world. Negotiated directly with Marvel Entertainment, Inc., this agreement covers some of the most sought‐after licenses in Europe and the world. It also gives the Carrefour Group the opportunity to sell licensed products while still maintaining control over the production chain. The first products will hit the French market in November 2008 to coincide with the DVD release of Iron Man. Complete roll‐out of the line is slated for spring 2009.
Carrefour continues expanding its non‐food range
After the 2003 Disney licensing agreement for textiles, followed by the 2006 launch of the home textiles and men's ready‐to‐wear line "Tex Création de M. Olivier Lapidus" and the "Tex by Max Azria" line in 2007, this new agreement underscores Carrefour's dedication to becoming a key player in textile sales.
Excluding countries in which the Group is present via franchisees.
The Group expects this partnership to lend impetus to its growing textile range in Carrefour stores the world over. It is part of its non‐food strategy for an enhanced product offer to best meet customer expectations and boost sales.
