EQUIPMENT FROM ISF PRESENTED IN THAILAND MEET
Last week in Bangkok the meeting took place of the Heads of Delegation for this summer’s 24th World University Games. Softball (women’s fast pitch) will make its debut at the multi-sport event, which will be held in Thailand from August 8-18. Dr. Karen Sykes, the International University Sports Federation’s (FISU) Technical Chair for softball, was among those in attendance. At a press conference that took place there last week, FISU President George Killian presented softball equipment donated by the ISF to delegates of the Wat Banmai School in Saraburi and the Ban Koh Sireh in Phuket, two schools that are financially supported by FISU. Starter kits from the ISF, provided to countries around the world, consist of fielder’s gloves, batting helmets, catcher’s gear, softballs, bats, and temporary bases. The ISF has been sending starter kits to numerous countries since 2002.
TASK FORCE TO THIS WEEKEND
The International Softball Federation’s (ISF) “Strategic Task Force” will meet this weekend at the world headquarters in Plant City, Florida. The session will have participants traveling from Canada, England, Greece, New Zealand, Panama, Puerto Rico, and USA. ISF VP/North America Dale McMann and two-time Olympic gold medalist (swimming) Donna de Varona will co-chair this weekend’s meeting.
ISF NOW PROVIDING ADDITIONAL VIDEOS
Thanks to a former Olympic Softball athlete, the ISF is also now including videos in the aforementioned starter kits. Michele Smith, who won a gold medal as a pitcher for Team USA at the Summer Games in 2000 (Sydney) and 1996 (Atlanta), has made a significant donation to the world governing body’s global development efforts. Ms. Smith, who is a member of the ISF’s Strategic Task Force, has provided approximately 800 VHS tapes to complement the equipment being sent to other countries. The “Elite Pitching” videos (shown below) cover “Beginning FastPitch” on Volume 1 and “Advanced Pitching” on Volume 2. Ms. Smith has done commentary on television broadcasts of several softball events, including last year’s ISF XI Women’s World Championship in Beijing, China. She also serves on the ISF’s Athletes Commission.

DENTSU VISITS ISF
Visitors to the ISF world headquarters this past week included Dentsu Communications President Ms. Yuki Hattori and Sports Business Division Director Mr. Yutaka Inagaki. Their visit coincided with previous discussions on ISF’s marketing program, sponsorship of major events, and the ISF Hall of Fame & Museum project. The two met with ISF President Don Porter, Director of Communications Bruce Wawrzyniak, and Director General Toma Malikoff.
